GCash introduces its new MasterCard with EMV

Listen to article

GCash, Globe’s own micropayment service, gives its reloadable prepaid card a needed upgrade. Their magnetic stripe only cards now have a built-in EMV chip technology for better security.

The new GCash MasterCard with EMV also comes with Beep for compatibility with Metro Manila’s unified ticketing on major transportation systems. EMV stands for Europay, MasterCard, and Visa, the trio that created the standard but it’s now managed and used by more major payment companies.

The GCash MasterCard with EMV is available for Php150 while the added Beep feature will cost Php210. These new cards are already available through Globe stores with GCash booths. You may check out the listing here 139.

According to 2882, if you have existing Gcash card, you need to unlink it from your mobile number. You need to buy a new card first at a Gcash booth and then ask them to unlink it from your current number. Then, they will link the new card to your number.

nahan tama ka na hindi tayo dapat singilin dyan ng extra charges. sa pag paplit emv cards isinabatas na ng BSP yang switching of emv cards. actually pwede silang kasuhan ng BSP sa pinagagagawa nila

Got mine last week at SM San Lazaro for 250 php because it has “free sim” that costs 40 php when bought on retail. Hay Globe. Sabi pa nila palagyan na lang daw namin ng pangalan sa ibang branch kasi wala silang nung machine. At least pwede na rin loadan yung Beep sa Family Mart. :)

It’s actually not free if you’re going to pay extra.

Other cards switching to EMV doesn’t charge their customers. It’s suppose to be free! This is a move by MasterCard, its sad that customers have to pay just to adjust.
