Following the announcement that Globe has activated 380 new 5G cell sites in Q1 2022, the telco has also revealed that it has fired up 252 cell sites in Q1 2022 to improve its coverage and connectivity across the country. According to Globe, the additional infrastructure brings its total cell towers to 12,194 as of end-March. For 2022, Globe earmarked PHP 89 billion for its capital expenditures to build new cell sites, upgrade existing sites to 4G/LTE, accelerate the rollout of 5G connectivity, and ramp up the fiberization of Filipino homes nationwide. Globe Telecom has officially partnered with Starlink to bring Direct to Cell (DTC) satellite service to the Philippines, making it the first telco in Southeast Asia to offer this breakthrough technology. Globe is set to announce that they will be offering Starlink's Direct to Cell service in the Philippines. As the first mobile operator in the Philippines to market Starlink’s Direct to Cell (DTC) service, Globe is leveraging space-based technology to reach the most geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas of our archipelago.
