Globe has officially launched its VoLTE (Voice over LTE) roaming capabilities. This rollout follows successful technical tests conducted back in 2023, where Globe partnered with Airtel of India to prepare for the global shift from legacy 2G and 3G networks to more efficient 4G and 5G systems. Globe’s VoLTE roaming is now available in several key destinations, including Japan (via Softbank), Australia (via Optus), Hong Kong (via CSL), Taiwan (via Taiwan Mobile), Macau (via CTM), and the USA (via T-Mobile and AT&T). VoLTE technology enables users to make high-definition voice calls, send texts, and use mobile data simultaneously over LTE networks, bypassing the need for outdated 2G and 3G systems. This advancement is crucial for Globe customers, who previously faced connectivity issues in countries phasing out older network technologies. Back in May 2023, Coco Domingo, Globe Vice President for Postpaid and International Business, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation: “Globe will continue to innovate and invest in new technologies to ensure that our customers have the best service. We are excited to roll out VoLTE Roaming and provide them with a seamless and enjoyable experience while traveling in foreign destinations.” With the current launch, Globe has delivered on its promise.
