As stated by the industry ministry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arief: "We are pushing these rules so that there's fairness for all investors in Indonesia." This is due to Google failing to meet the requirement that the smartphones need to have at least 40% of their parts locally manufactured. Consumers are allowed to purchase the Google Pixel and iPhone 16 abroad, but they would need to pay additional consumer tax.
