Indonesia has officially banned the sales for the Google Pixel series in their country. As stated by the industry ministry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arief: “We are pushing these rules so that there’s fairness for all investors in Indonesia.”
This is due to Google failing to meet the requirement that the smartphones need to have at least 40% of their parts locally manufactured. “Google’s products have not adhered to the scheme we set, so they can’t be sold here,” said Arief. It is also noted that the Pixel devices have not been officially distributed in the country just yet.
The iPhone 16 series has also been banned due to the same rule too. Consumers are allowed to purchase the Google Pixel and iPhone 16 abroad, but they would need to pay additional consumer tax.
