A congressional investigation into the costly, slow, and difficult-to-use internet services in the Philippines is being pushed by lawmakers. 823, which requests the Committee on Information and Communications Technology to evaluate internet service reliability, performance metrics, pricing structures, and user privacy safeguards. The lawmakers stated that 48.8% of Filipino households had access to home internet in 2024, while more than half of the population remained without internet access or insufficient service. The Philippines continues to lag behind multiple Asian countries because its internet service remains slower and more expensive, which creates negative effects for students, workers, and families throughout the country. The internet service is powered by Starlink and provides public WiFi access inside Pasig Mega Market. PLDT is planning to offer solar power solutions through monthly subscription plans bundled with its internet services, aiming to make solar energy more accessible to households. In a statement, the telecommunications company said it is working on a partnership with a solar energy provider to combine home internet services with renewable energy systems. According to PLDT, early testing of the service showed strong consumer interest in combining internet and solar services into one package.
