Samsung introduced today in Korea the ISOCELL Fast 2L9 and ISOCELL Slim 2X7, two new image sensors from the company's new ISOCELL brand. With the rising popularity of dual, and even quad camera setups, as well as large screen and bezel-less designs, these new sensors will allow for enhanced camera features on smartphones, without a camera bump, as Samsung claims. The ISOCELL Fast 2L9 is a 1.28-micrometer 12MP sensor with dual pixel technology that delivers fast auto-focus, even in low light environments. This may sound the same as the previous dual pixel sensor, but that one had a pixel size of 1.4-micrometers. On the other hand, the ISOCELL Slim 2X7 is a 0.9-micrometer 24MP sensor that features Tetracell technology, which merges pixels together as one to increase sensitivity in low light, and uses a re-mosaic algorithm to make for more detailed photos in brighter environments. The sensor also uses DTI (deep trench isolation), ISOCELL's improved technology that gives better color and less noise. Samsung has announced the ISOCELL HP5, a new 200MP camera sensor and the first in the world to feature ultra-small 0.5µm pixels. Unlike its larger 200MP siblings, the HP5 comes in a 1/1.56-inch format, making it ideal for telephoto and periscope cameras rather than being a main sensor on flagship phones.
