Huawei has just announced a new mobile chip called the Kirin 970, and it touts to be the first in the world to sport a neutral processing unit (NPU) for artificial intelligence programs. Nonetheless, the Kirin 970 is powered by an 8-core CPU and a 12-core GPU (Malli-G72), which Huawei touts 25x greater performance and 50x greater efficiency than a quad-core Cortex-A73 CPU cluster. The HiSilicon Kirin 970 is Huawei's very own home-baked chipset that is used in the company's top-of-the-line smartphones. The Nova 3 bears almost the same internals as the Nova 3i sans the bigger RAM, the addition of the USB Type-C port, and a more powerful processor in the form of the company's Kirin 970 chip that's earlier seen with the Mate 10 series, P20 series, and Honor 10. Huawei's Honor brand has launched a new smartphone in China, sporting a 5.84-inch display with a notch design, Kirin 970 chipset, and AI-assisted dual-rear cameras, the Honor 10.
