vivo has officially announced its first mixed reality (MR) headset, the Vision Explorer Edition, during its 30th anniversary event in Dongguan, China. Oculus has introduced Passthrough API Experimental—a way to build and test apps that incorporate mixed reality experiences. The "mixed reality" ecosystem is growing as three new manufacturers have joined. Microsoft has just revealed mixed reality headsets from ASUS, Dell, and Lenovo. vivo just went big for its 30th anniversary, not with another smartphone, but with something totally new: the vivo Vision Discovery Edition, the brand’s first-ever mixed reality headset. vivo has announced plans to unveil a mixed reality (MR) headset next year, aiming to challenge Apple’s Vision Pro. Apple has now come up with a new name for the software that would be powering its suspected AR/VR headset by trademarking it as "xrOS" instead of the rumored name of "realityOS" The report comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman as a sign that Apple may be launching its AR/VR headset in the near future. The name xr in "xrOS" would stand for Extended Reality, which would encompass the capabilities of both Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR).
