The Department of Transportation and Communications will start to implement today its fare matrix for three of Metro Manila's primary railroad transportation systems. Meanwhile, the biggest price increase will be at the EDSA-situated MRT-3 line, and this will mean an additional one peso for the base fare and another additional peso for every succeeding kilometer. The DOTC defended their decision as it has been over a decade since there was a fare hike on MRT-3. Commuters can now access the 50% fare discount on MRT-3 using GCash, as part of the government’s push to ease transportation costs amid rising prices. The discounted fare matrix, implemented by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), applies to single-journey tickets, stored-value cards, and cashless payments starting March 23.
