Starting Friday, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced that electric tricycles, or e-trikes, and similar electric vehicles will be banned from using major highways in the National Capital Region. Drivers caught violating the ban may face fines, vehicle impoundment, or both violations in line with Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code and Joint Administrative Order 2014-01. The Department of Transportation has approved the price hike for Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) effective on April 2. With the newly opened Cavite Extension, this is the second time LRMC has increased and adjusted the transportation fare for commuters. Commuters can now access the 50% fare discount on MRT-3 using GCash, as part of the government’s push to ease transportation costs amid rising prices. The discounted fare matrix, implemented by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), applies to single-journey tickets, stored-value cards, and cashless payments starting March 23. Several ride-hailing and motorcycle taxi platforms in the Philippines have begun reducing their commission rates in response to rising fuel prices, following discussions in a congressional hearing.
