Sony clarified that more than 99% of PS4 games would be playable on the new PS5, including The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima. For the PS5 Digital Edition console, users can play digital versions of compatible PS4 games. This is also compatible with PS4 digital games that have already been purchased or plan to purchase through the PlayStation Store on PS4, PS5, web, or via PlayStation mobile app. However, users won’t play their PS4 disc-based games on the PS5 Digital Edition since it has no disc drive. As for the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive, users may get to play the digital versions of compatible PS4 games downloaded from the PlayStation Store on PS4, PS5, web, or PlayStation mobile app. Users can also use physical PS4 game discs. After signing in to PS5 with the user's account for PlayStation Network, they will automatically see the library of played PS4 content on the menu. Moreover, Sony also mentioned that PS4 titles will get even better on PS5 with increased loading speeds on the PS5 console, and will also power Game Boost, giving out improved or more stable frame rates.
