Qualcomm has officially unveiled its latest premium mid-range chip, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4—positioned as a more affordable alternative to the high-end Snapdragon 8 Elite. Built on TSMC’s N4P 4nm process, the new chip skips Qualcomm’s custom Oryon cores found in the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite, instead using the older Kryo CPU architecture. 1x Cortex-X4 prime core clocked at 3.2GHz 3x Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0GHz 2x Cortex-A720 cores at 2.8GHz 2x Cortex-A720 cores at 2.0GHz Qualcomm claims this configuration delivers a 31% performance boost over last year’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, while reducing power consumption by 39%. Processor giant Qualcomm made waves recently with the announcement of its Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset. On a technical level, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 comes packing with a 2.3 GHz Kryo processor, supported by Adreno graphics.   In addition to those mentioned, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 also touts wireless lossless audio courtesy of Qualcomm aptX and Snapdragon Sound. Expect the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 to release within mid-market devices this year.
