During the latter part of 2013, Western Digital surprised the tech industry with the release of two Helium-filled 6TB hard drives which was the highest capacity at that time. Nine months later, Seagate snatches the crown away from WD with the announcement of the world’s first 8TB 3.5-inch HDD. In the press release, Seagate VP for Marketing Scott Hom said that the company’s new hard drive will address most of the issues that both private and cloud-based data centers encounter by allowing them to scale up their existing storage arrays with one slot having the ability to store up to 8TB worth of data. And to celebrate this milestone, the storage giant has announced two new portable hard drives, one of which is the Seagate Seven which, as its name implies, is a svelte 500GB portable hard drive that only measures 7mm thick on the sides. This resulted in to an ultra-thin, metal-bound hard drive that’s even thinner than an iPhone 6 Plus. Dubbed as the “world’s slimmest portable hard drive” by its maker, the Seagate Seven supports USB 3.0 and backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports. This hybrid drive by Seagate looks interesting -- it combines the large capacity of regular HDDs as well as the affordability together with the performance of fast SSDs.
