Renewable energy company Solar Philippines has proposed a 24/7 power for Php2.99 per kilowatt-hour (kwh) to Meralco which challenges First NatGas’ price proposal from its 414 MW San Gabriel gas power plant in Batangas. Solar Philippines stated that the offered rate would allow consumers to save over 30% or around Php75 billion per annum compared to Meralco's average generation rate of Php4.74 per kwh in the past three months. “Meralco can save an average of 30 percent thanks to advances in solar and battery storage,” said Solar Philippines president Leandro Leviste. Solar Philippines recently built its first MW-scale Solar-Battery Micro-Grid in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro to give 24/7 reliable power. SM North Edsa is now outfitted with a solar power system making it the world's biggest solar-powered mall. SM Prime, in partnership with Solar Philippines, built a 1.5-megawatt (1,500 kilowatt) solar rooftop at SM City North Edsa which will be used to power up a significant portion of the mall’s energy requirements. According to Inquirer, SM North Edsa's parking building were installed with 5,760 solar panels and 60 inverters covering more than 12,000 square meters. SM's solar power system will be inaugurated on Monday, November 24, and is expected to run for more than 25 years.
