HUAWEI MatePad 12 X (2026) Review
Just came from ABS-CBN for a guesting on Mornings @ ANC with guys from LG Electronics showing off their 3D TVs as well as that upcoming Full LED 3D TV this June.
One of the parting questions that TJ asked was the prospects of having these 3D TVs being adopted by the market.
At the moment, they’re still a niche product and because of the hefty price tag, very few will be able to afford 3D TVs. However, the same thing happened to Full HD LCD TVs a couple of years ago. They were expensive too, rolling in at the same price point as the current LED TVs in the market.
Personally, I am more inclined to believe that 3D TVs are more attractive to the heavy gamers — Need for Speed, NBA Live 2010 and God of Wars on a big screen (55″ and up) with 3D will definitely change the gaming experience to make the switch a compelling one. And will full LED displays, you get staggering contrast ratios (10 Million : 1) and super fast response times (480Hz).
But then, most of us will just have to wait until them LED bulbs become more affordable. Maybe in the next 3 to 5 years down the road? IMO, I’d actually go for bigger screen sizes first — so how about a 72-incher under Php100k?

Saving is such hard work and I haven’t come close for that Full HD yet, and now 3D is here. It’s such a cruel world. haha!

No one needs to buy a 3D TV. I was in Vegas for CES and saw some of the 3D TVs first hand when I had a little time to walk around. I hate having to put on 3D googles in the movies as it is. Why the heck would I want to be putting on goggles just to watch my TV? An nvidia representative at CES I was talking to told me that it was ridiculous to release the tech to consumers requiring goggles since the tech to do 3D without goggles is already here.
Not to mention that we don’t even have HD TV content here let alone 3D content. I have Cignal and I get like 3 actual HD channels (with nothing on) and like 6 fake HD channels which are upscaled frames, what I can do on my PC with FFDshow.
Lastly, ignoring the fact that you have to wear goggles, they haven’t even gotten the tech right yet. Every brand of TV you buy will need a different set of 3D googles. Replacement goggles are like US$150 each and if you have kids you know they will break them constantly.

US$150 per goggles is a deal breaker for me. Not only do you have to make sure that everyone in the household has one, you need extras in case you have guests.
And I totally agree… I’d go with the large screen than having 3D around the house.

I’d go for them bigger LED TVs to replace my Plasma.
Early adopters would really need a hefty amount cash to full enjoy this “new” (lol) technology. The TV’s already expensive and you have to buy them goggles that make you look like nerd. Pheesh.. It’s either a WIN or FAIL.

@Herce – most of the 3D TVs can also do regular 2D. The 3D option is technically an added feature, albeit an expensive one.
@Danny – LG told me their goggles will be cheaper at $10 to $20 each.

From consumer’s POV, I don’t think 3D TV will pick up anytime soon, unless of course your as rich as the politician’s and unless they are able to remove the 3d glass part.. I really don’t think the 3D TV will start invading our living room.
I was able to test the Sony Bravia 3D TV and compared it to the LG 3D TV, the different that I can see between the two is that sony has the advantage of streamlining their all their different products to use the 3D technology. Imagine connecting a PS3 to the Sony Bravia 3D TV or even a PSP. :) which is technologically possible if sony just put their brains into it. That may well be the advantage of Sony amongst their competitor, unless LG and other manufacturer even the playing field in terms of price. Then we may see a significant drop on the prices of these kind of TV/monitors. :)

when the content is here and they get rid of the 3d glasses it will become mainstream. i would think they would want to give LED tvs a 5 year run atleast like LCDs before 3D goes mainstream.

I think having a 3D TV is just plain vanity and luxury. 3D movies have been on-and-off since I was a small child, it was never loved by the masses because of it troublesome goggles that you have to wear making you look like an alien. the price is prohibitive. Why watch a TV having to worry wearing the goggles since you can watch the same on LCD, LED and plasma without the goggles. Si Asiong Aksaya lang ang gagamit nyan.

I don’t feel a big need for a 3D set myself. Maybe someday it will become standard, and when it’s time to replace your tv, that’s what you’ll get. You still need the 3D media to go with it, and that will take some time to build up.

innovation after innovation, how long do we have to play catch-up to this technology that never got a niche in our homes to start with. i think 3dtv will never make it to the homes of people here especially to the typical filipino family, basta may tv ok na yun, basta nakakanood; heck we haven’t got an hdtv broadcast over the airwaves, 3dtv pa kaya na you have to wear eyeglasses(active/passive).

is it me, or I’ve heard it somewhere else, that the ordinary TV can be 3D, just watch the 3D formatted vid or 3D CABLE(my predict hehehe :) on your ordinary TV and then buy some 3D glasses and thats it!! you can watch 3D at home!!
