Amazon drops acquisition for iRobot, cuts off 31% of workforce

Amazon has dropped their bid for iRobot, the makers of the Roomba.

iRobot and Amazon have mutually agreed to terminate Amazon’s acquisition for iRobot.

“iRobot is an innovation pioneer with a clear vision to make consumer robots a reality,” said by Founder of iRobot, Colin Angle, “The termination of the agreement with Amazon is disappointing, but iRobot now turns toward the future with a focus and commitment to continue building thoughtful robots and intelligent home innovations that make life better, and that our customers around the world love.”

iRobot has also stated that they will be dropping 31% of their workforce or about 350 employees. Colin Angle, the Founder of iRobot, will also be stepping down as CEO and Chariman of the Board. iRobot’s Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, Glen Weinstein, currently will be the Interim CEO.
