AMD, Cray para gumamit ng pinakamabilis na supercomputer para sa US government

Ang AMD at Cray'y ay resource-share na nakapag-announce na nagbabayad na sa pagbuo ng isang bagong supercomputer para sa US Department of Energy sa Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Ang supercomputer ay nagtatagpo ng pamagat bilang Frontier.

Ang Frontier ay itinanggap mula sa Cray’s Shasta architecture at Slingshot interconnect na may transfer rate na hanggang 200GB/s sa bawat port. Ito’y magkakaisipan sa mga espesyal na versyon ng AMD’s Epyc processors, kasama ang 4 GPUs, na itinanggap gamit ang AMD’s Infinity Fabric. Ang mga GPU ay may kaugalingang mataas na bandwidth memory at nasa 100 na cabinet. Ang AMD at Cray’y nagbibigay ng layunin na ang sistema ay magbibigay ng 1.5 exaflops ng kapangyaring proseso.

AMD and Cray plan to complete production and deliver the Frontier by 2021. Costing of the Frontier's hardware is around USD 500 million, while its research and development costs at around USD 100 million. It's noted that the Frontier will be the world's fastest supercomputer once delivered.
