HMD X1 Blends Safety and Style for the Ultimate Kid-Friendly Smartphone

Finland-based Human Mobile Devices (HMD) is set to revolutionize the smartphone experience for families with the launch of its new HMD X1, a device that promises to blend cutting-edge technology with robust safety features. Designed with both parents and kids in mind, the HMD X1 offers an ideal balance between security and style—a need that has long been overlooked by traditional smartphones.

HMD’s new device comes equipped with comprehensive parental controls that are easily managed via Xplora’s innovative app. This parental management tool allows parents to control internet access, restrict social media use, limit screen time, and monitor their child’s location with custom safe zones. In addition, features such as emergency SOS calling and low battery alerts ensure that parents stay connected to their children’s safety at all times. The inclusion of a School Mode, which locks out distracting apps during school hours, further reinforces the phone’s commitment to creating a productive and secure digital environment for young users.

This launch is a key outcome of HMD’s Better Phone Project, which began in July 2024. Through an extensive global survey involving 10,000 parents, the company discovered that 75% of parents are deeply concerned about the exposure of their children to online dangers, while 65% worry about the negative impacts of excessive phone usage on mental health. The survey also revealed that more than half of the respondents regretted providing their children with smartphones too early. With this feedback in hand, HMD set out to develop a device that not only addresses these concerns but also offers a modern, appealing design that kids will love.

Beyond its safety features, the HMD X1 is built to impress with its state-of-the-art hardware. The device features a 108MP AI-powered camera for stunning photos and videos, a long-lasting 5000mAh battery to keep up with busy days, and advanced facial and fingerprint recognition for secure unlocking. The phone also boasts an IP54-rated splash-resistant body, ensuring durability for everyday use. A unique highlight of the HMD X1 is its modular design, which lets users customize the phone with interchangeable “Outfits.” These include options like a gaming controller setup, a built-in ring light for enhanced selfies, and an extra battery module for those who need longer-lasting power.

Experts in the field have lauded the HMD X1 for addressing the often conflicting demands of digital safety and modern design. John Strand, a telecom consultant, observed that while children often gravitate towards popular brands like iPhone or Android, the HMD X1 offers a compelling alternative that doesn’t force kids to choose between safety and style. Titania Jordan, chief parent officer at a leading parental control company, added that the thoughtful integration of parental controls sets a new standard for children’s devices, ensuring that kids have a safe digital start without feeling left out.

While privacy remains a key concern, industry analysts emphasize the importance of on-device controls that give parents peace of mind without overly restricting a child’s digital independence. With HMD’s thoughtful design and robust safety measures, the HMD X1 is poised to become a game-changer in the realm of kid-friendly smartphones, offering families a unique solution that combines modern tech with essential safety features.
