iON Adventure Action Camera Review

Video Quality

The raw footage it produced was impressive enough that it had sharp details in it. As you can see on the video above, the greens were vibrant but not overly done and compensation for exposure was spot on, focusing on where we want it to focus. One minor thing we noticed was that colors sometimes were bleeding on really striking hues (check out the guy’s red shirt at 9:02 in the video above).

Since it was mounted on a helmet, there were unavoidable shakes but the video was still pretty stable as a whole — with its pixels not breaking up as was the case with other action cams we’ve tested.

Battery Life

Packing a 1200mAh unremovable battery, we had the Adventure fully charged and started recording at Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution with Wi-Fi off and timed it until it drained its power. We were able to squeeze out only 56 minutes of continuous shooting.

This is a bit disappointing since it rather defeats the purpose of having the functionality of switching between two memory cards for longer recording. The only thing we could see a good use for this is when you use it inside a car and is plugged into the lighter charger and you want to record an entire trip — that or going for a 720p or even lower resolution to lengthen its battery life.

Conclusion

The iON Adventure, although with somewhat outdated specs, still proved to be a handy device for short and casual shooting with its impressive video quality but might not be the best option for its price. Asking for a steep Php15,750, it only has a suction cup for a mount,  a buggy app, and a short-lived battery that doesn’t fully take advantage of its dual memory slot feature.

We liked that it could also double as a dashcam but I personally would rather have a good action camera and just get a cheap dashcam if I wanted to have both. But in the end, it’s still up to your preference.

Interested buyers may get it online at ACS Premium Solutions or Lazada.
