that’s norm, I work in a retail shirt store and we always change the the original price before the sale. you only notice this now? I though consumers know abt this trend already. we also have it on marketing 101. heh.

You’re right WC, I bought the Edifier speaker last month for less the upcoming sale price. Buyers should really be careful.

As good as the discount rate seems to indicate, it’s caveat emptor – buyers beware. Sometimes, they would jack up the pre-sale price to make the discount look more tempting – for one, the Huawei Band was launched at close to the sale price not 3599.

Other times, especially with mobile phones, the discount (vis-a-vis launch price) is real, but the phones are now old models, and newer models with comparable specs are now priced lower, hence, the have to discount them to sell.

That’s not to say, there’s not a discount to be had, just that do your research, not be tempted by the sale sign. That way, you can really get a good deal.
