OontZ Angle 3XL Bluetooth Speaker Quick Review
Bluetooth speakers come in multiple shapes and sizes, all offering different kinds of sound quality and price tags. That said, if you want a good sounding speaker, you will really have to cash out. That can’t be said with OontZ though as the company is offering in the country the Angle 3XL that packs big sound in a small price tag.
Design and Construction
To give you a quick background, Oontz’s products were designed by Cambridge SoundWorks – a Massachusetts-based consumer audio manufacturer and retailer founded in 1988. Designed in the USA and made in China
The Oontz Angle 3XL, as its name suggests, features a triangular tube form factor. Its body is mostly made of plastic with a combination of different finishes – bamboo finish for the three corners which are good in repelling smudges and fingerprints, rubber-like material for the sides, and matte underneath.
On the front is the speaker grille which shields four acoustic drivers.
Up top is the OontZ branding and the buttons for the power, Bluetooth, Replay, Play, Forward, Volume Up and Down, built-in microphone, and LED indicator for the dual-pairing mode.
On the left and right sides are the passive radiators and vibration plates with chrome paint jobs and bamboo finish.
At the back, we also have the grille which hides the rear passive radiator. Below it is a small flap that covers the switch for Indoor and Outdoor modes which we’ll discuss in a bit, USB 2.0 port, Aux-in and DC-in.
Underneath we have four, cushiony rubber feet which absorb vibrations well, and the compartment for the battery.
Design-wise, the Angle 3XL looks more interesting compared to the usual brick-shaped speakers. When it comes to build, it’s lacking as the plastic material doesn’t feel premium. Some parts are uneven and don’t have a unibody feel. But then again, that’s expected from an affordable speaker.
Connectivity and Features
The OontZ Angle 3XL is packed with connectivity features and other functions for its price. It’s got Bluetooth, Aux-in, Hands-free speakerphone, power bank, IPX5 water-resistance, and Wireless Dual Pairing.
Connecting your mobile device to the Angle 3XL is simple as you only need to turn on Bluetooth on both devices and start pairing. If you have a second Angle 3XL speaker, just press and hold the Pause/Play button for three seconds to go into Wireless Dual Pairing mode. From here you can utilize the Indoor and Outdoor modes. The Indoor mode will use the two speakers as its left and right channels for a stereo sound while Outdoor mode will play the same audio output.
Using the mentioned features can be done straight from your smartphone and the Angle 3XL and doesn’t require special apps which are good for users who don’t want to complicate things and just want to play their tunes right way.
Given its affordable price, we lowered our expectations for the Angle 3XL, but we were in for a surprise. It is very loud thanks to its four acoustic drivers and three passive radiators and can produce a quality sound that can match, or even exceed, other Bluetooth speakers double its price.
The bass is deep and can deliver that kind booming sound that you can feel, but at the same time its clean and controlled so that it doesn’t sound bloated or excessive.
The highs, on the other hand, are crisp and detailed. It also sounds spacious, like the sound is being delivered from a much wider source. The Angle 3XL is also more inclined towards this end of the spectrum and can sometimes produce a bit of sibilance in louder volumes.
When this happens, it also tends to drown the mids but not too much. On the bright side, the strong highs make it a good speaker phone as vocals are emphasized.
Overall, the Angle 3XL can produce a good quality sound that can deliver all music genres and satisfy a wide range of listeners.
The Angle 3XL features a 2,200mAh rechargeable Lithium battery. It is also replaceable and can be accessed by removing a screen from underneath. Aside from powering the speaker itself, it also has a power bank function (5V/1A) so you can charge your mobile device to keep the music going.
As for battery life, OontZ claims a play time of 8 hours when played at 70% volume. True enough we’re getting the same mileage and often got more than 9 hours as we normally play at a lower volume – 50% to 60%. Charging the device takes about 4 hours using its own power adapter. There’s no microUSB charging so you can’t replenish the battery using a standard smartphone charger.
To conclude, the OontZ Angle 3XL is an amazing speaker that packs big sound into a small package. Not only that, it also comes with good features that allow it to become more than just a Bluetooth-enabled music player like the speaker phone function, power bank, and Dual Wireless Pairing.
On the downside, we’re no a fan of the build as it doesn’t feel premium like those we’ve seen from Bose or JBL. But you might sweep that under the rug when you learn that it only costs
Php4,699 Php6,999. With that said, this makes the OontZ Angle 3XL one of the best Bluetooth speakers at this price point.
The OontZ Angle 3XL will be available via Lazada.
