Corning announces Gorilla Glass 5 with better drop performance

Corning Incorporated has just announced their latest glass protection technology and successor to the Gorilla Glass 4, the Gorilla Glass 5.

Corning says that Gorilla Glass 5 has better drop performance and can survive drops onto rough, unforgiving surfaces up to four times better than competitive glass designs. In their lab tests, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 survives up to 80 percent of the time when dropped face-down from 1.6 meters onto rough surfaces.

“With many real-world drops occurring from between waist and shoulder height, we knew improving drop performance would be an important and necessary advancement.” said John Bayne, vice president and general manager, Corning Gorilla Glass.

Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is commercially available and is expected to be on product models from leading global brands later this year.

i don’t know how corning makes its gorillla glass or its competiitor’s dragontrail glass but if it were up to my noob mind, i’d marry the phone screen protection tech with fiberglass backboard tech used in basketball.

kung kayang tiisin ng fiberglass backboard ang mga dunks nina shaquille, dwight howard, blake griffin, at lebron james, malamang pwede rin ang totoong shatter-proof na phone screen tech.
