0:00Nubia has recently dropped its newest
0:02gaming phone lineup and what we have
0:03here today is the Nubia Neo Pro 5G.
0:06Spoiler alert, this guy is priced at
0:08under 15,000 pesos making it not so
0:11budget gaming phone anymore for a Neo
0:13series model. At this point, it has
0:16practically entered the mid-range
0:17segment. So, what does it bring to the
0:20table? Let’s find out in this review.
0:22I’m your host Earl, let’s get right into
0:23the video.
0:31Starting with the looks, this one’s no
0:33different from Nubia Neo phones that we
0:35have reviewed before. In fact, this Neo
0:385 Pro 5G in particular, which is the
0:40white hills on version, closely
0:42resembles the Nubia Neo 3 GT limited
0:45edition from last year. They look
0:46exactly the same and they [music] both
0:48literally pack the same exact internals.
0:50The phone still has that all plastic
0:52build sporting a matte back panel,
0:54octagon shape camera lenses, and of
0:56course, the falcon eye lighting design.
0:59Worthily enough, it’s also just limited
1:01to white LED lighting making it more
1:04obvious that this is just a rebadge
1:06unit. For iOS, it has the usual layout
1:08with a volume rocker and power button
1:10found on the right side along with the
1:11shoulder triggers. There’s nothing on
1:13the left. The top houses a mic and the
1:15bottom has a dual nano SIM tray, USB-C
1:18port, another mic, and the speaker
1:20grill. Sadly, no expandable storage here
1:23unlike its non-pro counterpart. For
1:25extra protection, the phone is IP64
1:27rated for dust and splash [music]
1:29resistant. Flip it over, it’s sport a
1:316.8 inch full HD OLED display with 120
1:34hertz refresh rate and a peak brightness
1:37of 1,300 nits. The bezels here are quite
1:39thin and uniform all around. The viewing
1:41experience is decent with nice colors
1:43and deep blacks, good enough for daily
1:45use and watching content. However, the
1:47listening experience falls a bit short.
1:49It’s dual series speakers, which has
1:51DTS:X [music] Ultra tuning by the way,
1:54is not as loud as I’d hoped. Sound
1:57quality is made at best, rocking
1:59respectable highs and mids, but mostly
2:01lacking in bass. And this might come off
2:03as a nitpick, but the speaker placement
2:06here is a bit awkward. Since the
2:07shoulder triggers are on the right side,
2:10it just makes sense to hold it in a
2:11certain orientation when gaming or
2:13watching videos. The problem here
2:15[music] is that there’s a high chance
2:17you’d easily block the speaker with your
2:18palm. So, you kind of have to adjust
2:20your grip to avoid blocking it. For
2:22biometrics, the phone support an under
2:24display fingerprint sensor along with
2:26face unlock. Both methods are quite
2:28fast, but as always, I’d suggest using
2:30the fingerprint sensor as it’s generally
2:32more secure than face recognition. This
2:35being a gaming phone, cameras are not
2:37its strongest suit as expected. It
2:39features a 50 megapixel main shooter and
2:41a 2 megapixel depth sensor at the rear.
2:43While up front, there’s a 16 megapixel
2:46selfie camera. Looking at our sample
2:48shots, the image quality here is a hit
2:50or miss. For the most part, the Nubia
2:52Neo 5 Pro can capture decent shots,
2:54especially well-lit environments. But
2:56sometimes, the shot can get overexposed
2:58and the color accuracy tends to be
3:00inconsistent at times. Shots taken in
3:02low-light environments are still
3:03surprisingly usable and selfies are okay
3:06with no beautify effects enabled by
3:08default whatsoever. For video, the phone
3:10can record up to 4K at 30 frames per
3:12second and the video quality is
3:14serviceable. It’s good enough for casual
3:16shots, but I wouldn’t recommend this for
3:18content creation. It also lacks some
3:20form of stabilization, so the footage
3:22comes out shaky all the time. So, peeps,
3:24early today right now we’re using the
3:26Nubia Neo 5 Pro 5G and we’re shooting at
3:291080p at 30 frames per second. Right now
3:32we’re utilizing the front-facing camera
3:34and this is the sample video and audio
3:36of it. Tell us your thoughts about the
3:38camera capability of this phone.
4:03>> Now, let’s talk about the part you’ve
4:05all been waiting for, performance. The
4:07Nubia Neo 5 Pro is equipped with the
4:09Unisoc T9100 combined with 12 gig of RAM
4:12and 256 gig of internal storage. In
4:15AnTuTu version 11, the phone managed to
4:17get a decent score of over 700,000
4:20points, which is actually not bad, but
4:22could have been better considering its
4:24price.
4:37For daily use, it’s still quite fast and
4:39we didn’t encounter any obvious
4:40slowdowns even when opening multiple
4:42apps. The gaming [music] experience,
4:43however, has different layers into it.
4:46In mobile titles like Pokémon Unite, the
4:48phone confidently ran at 60 frames per
4:50second at high graphic setting like
4:52Garena Free Fire, also reaching 60
4:54frames without noticeable stutters. The
4:57shoulder triggers also proved to be
4:58quite useful with these type of game.
5:00With console-level controls, I could
5:02easily map each shoulder trigger to
5:04certain button or action like using a
5:06scope. Surprisingly enough, for fighting
5:08games like Mortal Kombat, the phone
5:10managed to run around 70 FPS. However,
5:13in the more graphically demanding games
5:15like Wuthering Waves, the [music] frame
5:16rate hovered less than 30 frames per
5:18second even at the lowest graphic
5:20settings and [music] with space game
5:21enabled. Probably the best thing about
5:24our testing is the phone’s thermals. It
5:26remained [music] relatively cool even
5:27without heavy sustained workloads. We
5:30have a dedicated gaming review of the
5:32Neo 5 Pro on the channel, so you may
5:34watch that here if you haven’t already.
5:37On the software side, the phone ships
5:39with MyOS 16 built on top of Android 16.
5:42That said, Nubia isn’t really known for
5:44being transparent about their update
5:45policy, so I’m not really sure where to
5:48stand in this regard. The UI also looks
5:50a bit outdated to my liking. Everything
5:52works fine and I appreciate the custom
5:54icon pack for it to look more gamer
5:56coded. But, it lacks that kind of flare
5:58that you’d see from other Android skin.
6:00For example, the animation look cheap
6:02and I think it doesn’t really have a
6:04consistent design language throughout
6:05the UI. Exploring MyOS further, it packs
6:08some AI tools to work with. The main
6:10highlight is probably Demi, the phone’s
6:12own AI gaming chatbot. [music] It
6:14essentially acts as an AI assistant and
6:16a gaming coach, mainly to improve how
6:18you play games. There are some bloatware
6:20present tucked inside app folders and
6:22there are also Nubia first-party apps
6:24pre-installed. Battery-wise, the phone
6:26packs a 6,000 mA hour unit paired with
6:2980 watts of fast charging. Despite the
6:31larger-than-usual battery pack, the
6:33phone seemed to deliver a less optimal
6:34[music] battery life. In our PC Mark
6:37test, it only lasted 8 hours and 51
6:39minutes. So, that explains a lot already
6:41about the kind of optimization this
6:43phone has or that lack thereof. In our
6:46video loop test, it had significantly
6:48better results with 19 hours and 46
6:50minutes of uptime. Based on experience,
6:52unless you’re using it for heavy [music]
6:54tasks or gaming, the phone can still
6:56last almost an entirety of typical use.
6:58When it’s time to charge, the 80-watt
7:00charging brick can replenish [music] the
7:02battery to full in just 40 minutes and
7:04there’s also bypass charging to boot.
7:06For connectivity, the Neo 5 Pro supports
7:095G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, but no eSIM here
7:12available. Now, the moment we’ve all
7:14been waiting for, the price. The Nubia
7:16Neo 5 Pro 5G retails for 14,999
7:19pesos. Moving on to our verdict, I
7:22honestly [music] have mixed feelings
7:23about this. Sure, it’s got that typical
7:25Nubia DNA that makes for a good gaming
7:27smartphone. [music]
7:28Features like the shoulder triggers,
7:30Falcon Eye lighting design, and the
7:32dedicated gaming chipset make the Neo 5
7:35Pro a fairly viable option for gaming.
7:37However, when you take the price into
7:39consideration, that’s when it becomes a
7:42bit of a letdown. For the price, there
7:44are alternatives out there which aren’t
7:46gaming-centric phones to begin with that
7:49offer relatively better performance than
7:51what the Neo 5 Pro has in store. The
7:53only time we’d recommend getting it is
7:55probably during a sale. Once they slash
7:57the price down to as low as 11,000 pesos
8:00or less, then at that point, it’s a
8:02steal already. But, what do you think of
