0:00These days, it’s not hard to find a
0:02smartphone with a large battery or a
0:05high refresh rate display. Finding one
0:07that offers both while staying slim and
0:09comfortable to hold is a bit more
0:11challenging. That’s where the Tecno Pova
0:144 2 5G comes in. It combines a large
0:17battery, a curved 144 Hz AMOLED display,
0:21and a handful of AI features into a
0:23package that doesn’t feel overly bulky
0:26in the hand. On paper, it sounds like a
0:29compelling combination. The question is
0:32whether that translates into a good
0:33everyday experience. I’m your host CJ.
0:37Let’s find out how the Pova 4 2 5G
0:39holds.
0:44>> [music]
0:47>> Starting with the design, the Pova 4 2
0:50immediately makes an impression thanks
0:52to its slim profile. Despite packing an
0:54enormous 8,000 mA hour battery, the
0:57device measures just 7.42 mm thin. In
1:01hand, [music] the phone feels
1:02comfortable to hold. The curved edges
1:04help distribute the weight nicely and
1:06make it feel less bulky than you would
1:08expect from a device carrying this much
1:11battery capacity. The rear panel uses a
1:13matte plastic finish that does a decent
1:15job resisting fingerprints and smudges.
1:18It feels pleasant enough in everyday use
1:20and doesn’t come across as overly cheap.
1:22That said, [music] I’m not completely
1:24sold on Tecno’s design language here.
1:26The futuristic aesthetic feels a little
1:29forced and artificial at times,
1:31especially the sticker-like design over
1:33here on the bottom part. Some people may
1:35enjoy the look, but personally, I would
1:38have preferred something like the first
1:39Pova 4 design, but I digress. Durability
1:43is respectable as well. The device comes
1:45with Corning Gorilla Glass 7 i
1:46protecting the display
1:48>> [music]
1:48>> and carries an IP64 rating for dust and
1:50water resistance. For buttons and ports,
1:53the power button and volume rockers sit
1:55on the right side, while the bottom
1:56houses the USB-C port, [music] SIM tray,
1:59and loudspeaker. Tecno also includes a
2:0145-W charging brick and a protective
2:03case in the box, which are always nice
2:05to see nowadays. So, this case right
2:07[music] here.
2:08Flipping the phone over, you’re greeted
2:10by a 6.78-in
2:12curved AMOLED display with a refresh
2:14rate of up to 144 Hz. This is easily one
2:17of the strongest parts of the device.
2:18The display looks vibrant without going
2:20overboard. Colors appear natural, which
2:23makes photos, videos, and social media
2:25content look pleasing in general. The
2:27144-Hz refresh rate helps make
2:29navigation feel smooth and responsive.
2:31Whether you’re scrolling through social
2:33media, browsing websites, or simply
2:35moving around the interface, the phone
2:37feels fluid. Brightness is another
2:39highlight. With up to 4,500 nits peak
2:41brightness and 1,600 nits HBM
2:44brightness, visibility outdoors is
2:46excellent. [music] Even under direct
2:48sunlight, I rarely found myself
2:50struggling to see what was on screen.
2:52The curved edges also contribute to a
2:54more immersive viewing experience,
2:56especially [music] when watching videos.
2:58For media consumption, the display is
3:00backed by Widevine L1 support, allowing
3:03full HD streaming on supported platforms
3:05like Netflix. Audio, however, isn’t
3:08quite as impressive. [music] Despite
3:10Tecno listing Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res
3:12audio support, the Pova 2
3:14only uses a single downward-firing
3:16speaker. Volume is acceptable, but I
3:19often found myself pushing it close to
3:21maximum. Vocals and mids come through
3:23clearly enough, but there’s very little
3:25bass present. The bigger issue is that
3:27the speaker can easily become muffled
3:29while gaming, since your hand naturally
3:31covers it in landscape orientation. For
3:34biometrics, the phone uses an
3:35under-display fingerprint scanner. It’s
3:37fast, reliable, and consistently unlocks
3:39the device without much trouble. There’s
3:41also face unlock available if you prefer
3:43a quicker method of getting into the
3:45[music] phone. In the camera department,
3:47the Pova 2 features a 50-megapixel main
3:49camera accompanied by a 2-megapixel
3:51depth sensor. Up front is a 13-megapixel
3:53selfie camera. The camera system is
3:55surprisingly decent for everyday use.
3:57[music] Its biggest strength is the
3:59bright 1.7 aperture, which naturally
4:02creates pleasant background blur when
4:04shooting [music] close-up subjects.
4:06Unlike some phones that rely heavily on
4:07software effects, the blur here can look
4:10quite natural under the right
4:11conditions. Autofocus is reasonably
4:13reliable as well. It can capture fine
4:16and details like textures and small
4:18objects without much trouble. When using
4:20the two times mode, the phone crops in
4:22effectively and does a decent job
4:24isolating subjects without making images
4:27fall apart completely. Outdoors is where
4:29the camera performs best. Colors look
4:31natural and realistic [music] while
4:32image processing isn’t overly
4:34aggressive. The photos aren’t the most
4:36detailed in the segment, but they’re
4:37certainly good enough for social media
4:39and everyday photography. Indoors is
4:41where the limitations start to become
4:43more obvious. Under weaker lighting
4:45conditions, the camera needs to push ISO
4:47levels higher to maintain brightness.
4:49[music] While this helps keep subjects
4:51visible, images lose some sharpness and
4:54start looking softer compared to
4:56daylight shots. Since Tecno markets this
4:58as an AI camera system, [music] the
5:00phone applies a noticeable amount of
5:02processing after taking photos.
5:04Sometimes the result works well in its
5:06favor, but there are moments when the
5:07software can feel a bit too aggressive.
5:10For selfies, the 13-megapixel front
5:12camera produces usable results with
5:13decent detail and acceptable skin tones.
5:16Moving on to video recording, both the
5:18rear and front camera support up to 2K
5:20recording at 30 FPS. Video quality is
5:23respectable for casual content creation
5:25and social media uploads. If you want
5:26additional stabilization, there’s an
5:28ultra steady mode available, though it
5:31reduces the resolution to 1080p at 30
5:33FPS.
5:34>> Peeps, early figure tech right now we’re
5:35using the Tecno Pova 2 and it’s shooting
5:38at 2K at 30 frames per second. So, this
5:40is the sample video we’re using the
5:42front-facing camera. So, tell us your
5:43thoughts about camera capability of this
5:45phone.
5:46>> [music]

6:18[music]
6:20>> Powering the Tecno Pova 2 is the
6:22MediaTek Dimensity 7100 5G with 8 GB of
6:26RAM and 256 GB of storage. For daily
6:29use, the experience is definitely
6:31smooth. Apps launch quickly,
6:33multitasking feels responsive, and
6:34navigating around the system rarely
6:36presents any issue. The benchmark
6:38results are quite respectable for this
6:40segment. [music]
6:48>> [music]
6:59>> When it comes to gaming, it delivers a
7:01fairly capable experience for its price
7:04range. [music] In MOBA games like
7:05Pokémon Unite and Mobile Legends, the
7:07phone handles the games well. Gameplay
7:09feels smooth, controls are responsive,
7:12and I didn’t encounter any noticeable
7:14lag during matches. Team fights, skill
7:16effects, and larger battles remain
7:18stable, making it an enjoyable
7:19experience whether you’re playing
7:21casually or climbing the ranks.
7:23>> [music]
7:23>> The same can be said for Mortal Kombat
7:25Mobile as well as shooter games like
7:27Call of Duty Mobile. These games run
7:29smoothly and animations play without any
7:31obvious stuttering, and the overall
7:33experience is consistent throughout
7:35longer play sessions. [music]
7:36For heavier games, however, the
7:38experience becomes a bit more mixed.
7:40Wuthering Waves launches with the
7:42balance preset by default, but even at
7:45those settings, [music]
7:46the game can feel somewhat laggy in
7:48certain areas. Enabling Game Space’s
7:50performance mode helps a little, but the
7:53improvement isn’t particularly dramatic.
7:56Frame drops can still occur while
7:57exploring larger environments or during
7:59combat encounters with multiple effects
8:01happening on screen at once.
8:03Interestingly, lowering the graphic
8:05settings doesn’t result in a massive
8:07performance jump, either. The game
8:09becomes slightly smoother, but the
8:11difference isn’t as significant as you
8:13might [music] expect. Despite that,
8:14Wuthering Waves remains playable, and
8:16players who don’t mind the occasional
8:18frame drops can still enjoy the
8:19experience. One thing I immediately
8:21noticed is the heat build-up. The phone
8:23starts warming up fairly quickly when
8:25playing Wuthering Waves, particularly
8:27around the upper portion of the device.
8:29It never became too hot to hold during
8:31my testing, but the increase in
8:33temperature is definitely noticeable
8:35after extended sessions. [music]
8:36On the software side, the phone runs
8:38HiOS 16 based on Android 16. The
8:41interface feels familiar and easy to
8:42navigate, and animations generally
8:44remain smooth throughout daily use.
8:46Unlike some devices that arrive packed
8:48with unnecessary third-party
8:50applications, most of the extra software
8:52here comes directly from Tecno itself.
8:54Apps such as Game Space, Ella, and Tecno
8:56Spot come pre-installed. Whether these
8:59are useful or unnecessary depends
9:01largely on your personal preferences.
9:03Tecno also has placed a strong focus on
9:05AI features. The phone includes Ella AI,
9:07Circle to Search, AI Writing, AI
9:10Subtitles, AI Gallery, and the
9:12translation assistant. Circle to Search
9:14remains one of the most practical
9:16additions, since it allows you to
9:17quickly search anything on your screen
9:19without switching apps. The AI writing
9:22tools can assist with generating and
9:23rewriting text, while AI Gallery offers
9:25various image-related enhancements and
9:27editing options. It’s a feature-rich
9:29software [music] experience that offers
9:31plenty to explore, especially if you’re
9:33interested in AI-powered tools.
9:35Connectivity is well covered here. The
9:36Pova Curve 2 supports dual SIM with 5G
9:39and 5G connectivity [music]
9:41along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS,
9:44USB-C, and NFC. Sadly, no eSIM support
9:47here, but using mobile data on this
9:49phone seems more reliable. It does get
9:52better internet connection through
9:53mobile data in our office when the
9:55signal reception sucks. So, that’s
9:58something. [music] Battery life is for
9:59sure one of the phone’s biggest
10:01highlights. Packing an 8,000 mA hour
10:03battery inside a 7.32 mm body is already
10:07impressive on paper. But, the real-world
10:09results are equally impressive. [music]
10:11The device comfortably lasted me an
10:12entire day of use with room to spare. In
10:14our benchmarks, it achieved an excellent
10:1619 hours and 35 minutes in PCMark Work
10:19battery life test. Charging is handled
10:21by a 40-watt fast charger and takes
10:23roughly an hour to fully replenish the
10:25battery. Tecno also includes bypass
10:27charging support, allowing the phone to
10:29draw power directly from the charger
10:31during gaming to help reduce heat
10:33[music] and battery wear. The reverse
10:35charging as well, letting the phone act
10:37as a power bank for other devices when
10:38needed. Now, for the big question, how
10:41much is the Tecno Pova Curve 2 5G?
10:43[music]
10:43It retails for 16,499
10:46pesos. And for that price, it offers a
10:49compelling [music] package for users who
10:50prioritize battery life, media
10:52consumption, and everyday usability. The
10:55massive 8,000 [music] mA hour battery is
10:57easily one of the biggest selling points
10:59here. Paired that with a bright 144 Hz
11:01curved AMOLED display, reliable
11:03performance for daily tasks, decent
11:05cameras, and useful features like bypass
11:07charging and NFC, and you [music] get a
11:09device that’s well-rounded for the
11:10price. At the same time, it isn’t
11:13perfect. The single speaker setup feels
11:15out of place on a phone that otherwise
11:17emphasizes on media consumption. The
11:18gaming experience in heavier [music]
11:20titles like Wuthering Waves also reveals
11:22the limits of the chipset, and the
11:24current futuristic design may not appeal
11:26to everyone. Still, if you’re looking
11:28for a smartphone that can comfortably
11:29last all day, offers a beautiful
11:31display, and handles most daily tasks
11:33without breaking a sweat, then the Tecno
11:35Pova Curve 2 5G is easy to recommend.
11:38It’s not the gaming powerhouse the Pova
11:40brand might suggest, but as an
11:42endurance-focused daily driver with a
11:44great display, it makes a strong case
11:47for itself in the mid-range segment. So,
11:50what do you think of the Tecno Pova
11:51Curve 2? Would you get this phone? Let
