0:00This is the Xiaomi Pad Mini and despite
0:03the name, it absolutely packs a punch.
0:05Equipped with the flagship Dimensity
0:079400 Plus chipset, but it isn’t all
0:10about performance. We’re talking about
0:12value. And fun fact, we actually bought
0:15this tablet during a sale and saved over
0:187,000 pesos in discounts. So, why choose
0:21the Xiaomi Pad Mini over many other
0:23options out there? I’ll tell you why in
0:26this review. Roll that intro.
0:31Probably the best thing about the Xiaomi
0:33Pad Mini is of course its size. It only
0:36has a screen size of 8.8 in and a thin
0:40frame measuring just 6.46 mm. This makes
0:43it relatively easier to use the tablet
0:46one-handed. In my opinion, it’s the
0:48sweet spot as to how large a tablet
0:50would be while still providing decent
0:53screen real estate and much needed
0:55comfort. Adding points of practicality
0:57is the optional case with a built-in
0:59handle.
1:03Tada. This provides a more comfortable
1:06grip for longer use, and it even doubles
1:08as a stand when set on a table. It’s
1:11pretty neat if you ask me. Going back to
1:13the tablet itself, it has that standard
1:16look that we’re used to. A metal unibody
1:18design with flat edges. [music] From the
1:20back in landscape orientation, we’ll
1:22find the single camera lens on the upper
1:24right corner and the Xiaomi logo on the
1:26left. There are no pogo pins for a
1:28keyboard attachment here, which makes
1:31sense since Xiaomi didn’t make a
1:32dedicated physical keyboard either. In
1:35this case, we paired it up with a
1:37third-p party keyboard to still be able
1:39to do a mini laptop setup. So, you still
1:41have that option. We did notice that the
1:44Xiaomi Focus Pen can connect to the
1:46tablet, though. So
1:51there you go. There. Our unit is in the
1:53gray colorway. And while it does sport a
1:55matte finish, it’s still prone to
1:57smudges. This becomes even more
1:59noticeable if you have sweaty hands, but
2:01it can be easily minimized by using the
2:04case, which is a full leather finish. We
2:06have the power button on the left, a
2:08speaker grill, and a microphone. At the
2:10top, there’s the volume rocker alongside
2:12a magnetic strip for charging and
2:14storage of the stylus, which we
2:16mentioned earlier. Also, there’s the
2:18second mic just beside the rear camera.
2:21Over here on the right, there’s the
2:22second speaker grill, the USBC port, and
2:25another mic. At the bottom, there’s
2:26another USBC, which is a USB 3.2 Gen 1.
2:30More on that later. When it comes to
2:32extra protection, you may need to be a
2:34bit more careful while using this
2:36tablet. For one, it doesn’t have an IP
2:38rating, and second, its display doesn’t
2:41have any glass protection, so that’s
2:43something to keep in mind. Now, speaking
2:45of display, again, the Xiaomi Pad Mini
2:48sports an 8.8 in screen. However, this
2:51one uses an IPS LCD panel, which might
2:54make some people off despite the fact
2:57the overall visual experience has been
3:00great in our opinion. The details are
3:02sharp thanks to its 3K resolution. The
3:04colors are decent and it has nice
3:06viewing angles. We also get thin uniform
3:08bezels all around and an insane refresh
3:11rate of up to 165 hertz. Although not
3:14all apps, let alone games run at that
3:16level, it’s still great to have. As
3:19expected from an IPS LCD panel, the
3:22blacks aren’t going to be as deep as
3:24compared to OLED. So, when watching
3:26shows or movies, you’ll usually notice
3:28the black borders looking a tad bit
3:30grayish. [music] Screen brightness also
3:32takes a hit here since the tablet only
3:34supports 700 nits of luminance in high
3:36brightness mode or HPM. This means you
3:39should probably use the tablet more
3:41often [music] indoors. One thing we
3:43really liked about this tablet is its
3:45audio performance. It gets incredibly
3:47loud, enough to fill in a small room
3:49while maintaining balanced sound even at
3:51max volumes. The highs and mids come
3:54through clearly, and the bass is
3:56surprisingly punchy, though it doesn’t
3:58quite match the depth you’d get from the
4:00likes of iPad Pro. Still, I must say
4:03it’s easy to get immersed in how good
4:05the audio sounds, especially with the
4:07stereo speakers enhancing the overall
4:09experience. For biometric security, the
4:12tablet doesn’t come with a dedicated
4:13fingerprint sensor, but it does support
4:16face unlock. It’s quite quick in
4:17unlocking the device, though not very
4:20secure, [music] so you’d rather stick to
4:22using PIN or pattern. Moving on to
4:24cameras, nothing really impressive here.
4:27As you generally expect with tablets,
4:30the camera capabilities are decent at
4:33best. The Xiaomi Pad Mini features a
4:35single 13 megapixel rear camera and 8
4:38megapixel selfie shooter. Taking a look
4:40at our sample shots, the image quality
4:41is acceptable. The detail is sharp in
4:43well-lit areas, but it becomes rather
4:46soft for indoor shots. And the colors
4:48look a bit more saturated, though it
4:50offers decent dynamic range. It does
4:52have a portrait mode, but it’s not good
4:54at separating the subject from the
4:56background. Selfies are pretty decent,
4:58too, with nice skin color and texture
5:00for bright shots, although details are
5:02less sharp. I like the fact that the
5:04selfie camera already uses a wide angle
5:06lens, so more content can fit the frame.
5:08What I don’t like here, however, is the
5:11camera placement. It’s on the left side
5:13in landscape orientation, so you’re not
5:16going to be centered in frame. In terms
5:18of video capture, that tablet can shoot
5:20up to 4K at 30 frames per second from
5:22the rear, and the front is limited to
5:241080p at 60 frames per second. [music]
5:26The video quality is also acceptable.
5:29The details and colors look all right.
5:30The dynamic range is okay, and there’s
5:33some form of image stabilization here,
5:35which is likely electronic, making the
5:38shots a little less shaky. However, the
5:40quality gets worse from the selfie
5:42camera. In low light setting, faces can
5:44become too smooth and pale, and the
5:46overall image is a bit washed out. So,
5:49here are your colors and details. Uh,
5:51there we go.
5:54>> So, yeah. What do you guys think? Let us
5:55know in the comment section below.
5:57Still, it’ll be useful for stuff like
5:59online meetings, taking photos of
6:01documents, or even random quick snaps
6:04just in case you don’t have access to
6:06your phone right away. Now, perhaps the
6:08biggest selling point of the Xiaomi Pad
6:10Mini is its flagship level performance.
6:12Under the hood, the tablet is equipped
6:14with MediaTek’s flagship chip from 2025,
6:16the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Plus. It’s
6:19the same chip powering the likes of the
6:21Xiaomi 15T Pro. As you can see in our
6:23benchmark results, the Xiaomi Pad Mini
6:25achieved favorable results. In Hanutu
6:28V10, it achieved over 2.4 million
6:30points. And in 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme,
6:33it achieved an average frame rate of
6:35about 33 FPS. Those
6:38[music]
6:49numbers already show how powerful this
6:51tablet is. Navigating around is buttery
6:53smooth, app loading times are fast, and
6:56gaming is a breeze. We tried to play
6:58both casual and graphic intensive games,
7:00and the tablet handled them quite well.
7:02Mobile Legends ran effortlessly at 120
7:05fps with ultra graphic settings. In Call
7:08of Duty Mobile, while it was playable at
7:10120 fps, the graphics will be capped at
7:12medium setting. You can crank it to
7:14ultra graphic, but the frame rate will
7:17be capped to 60 fps. Meanwhile, in
7:19Withering Waves, the tablet was able to
7:21run at 60 fps even with maxed out
7:24settings. However, there are some
7:26stutters here and there, especially with
7:28moments where a lot of visual effects
7:30are happening at once. Adding to that,
7:32the tablet quickly heats up when all the
7:34settings are toggled to max. So, I would
7:36recommend lowering the graphics settings
7:38to at least medium, especially if you
7:40plan to play for long periods. My
7:43[snorts] only real gripe is the limited
7:45memory and storage options. In the
7:47Philippines, you only get the 8 GB plus
7:49256 GB version, while other countries
7:52like Singapore get a 12 GB plus 512 GB
7:56option. Sure, apps open quickly, but the
7:58RAM management isn’t the best. When I
8:01switch between apps, they usually reload
8:03when I come back to them. Onto the
8:05software side, the Xiaomi Pad Mini,
8:07being a 2025 release, shipped with Hyper
8:10OS2 based on Android 15. Fortunately,
8:13during the time we bought this, the
8:15Hyper OS3 update is already available,
8:17and we’ve been using the latest version
8:19throughout our review. The UI design is
8:21pretty much the same as before in Hyper
8:24OS2, but you can appreciate the
8:25smoother, bouncier animations in certain
8:28places. And the overall visual design,
8:31even though mostly inspired by iOS,
8:33looks great in our opinion. There were
8:35some bloatware here on bootup like
8:37Netflix and Spotify, but they can easily
8:40be uninstalled if you want to. Of
8:42course, this being a tablet, there are
8:44multitasking features available like
8:46floating windows and split screen.
8:47There’s even workstation mode, allowing
8:49you to open up to four windows for
8:51quickly switching from different apps.
8:53While that is useful, I mostly found
8:56myself using the tablet in regular mode,
8:58usually just in split screen mode and
9:00two floating windows. Xiaomi HyperAI is
9:03also available here, offering a suite of
9:05AI tools for notes, gallery, and
9:07real-time communications such as AI
9:09translate and AI subtitles. Sadly,
9:12Xiaomi did not say anything about update
9:14policy for the Pad Mini, but we’re
9:16expecting at least two major OS upgrades
9:19and three years of security patches.
9:21Battery wise, the tablet packs a 7,500
9:24mAh battery with 67 watts of wired
9:27charging. It also supports 18 watts of
9:29reverse wired charging for juicing up
9:31small accessories. Now, the battery
9:33isn’t that big, but was still able to
9:35deliver a decent battery life. In our PC
9:38Mark test, the Xiaomi Pad Mini passed 13
9:40hours and four minutes of uptime. In our
9:43proprietary video loop test, it
9:45registered 11 hours and 26 minutes of
9:47battery life. When we only did light
9:49work and watching content from time to
9:51time, the tablet lasted even longer,
9:53getting over a day of typical use.
9:56Remember the dual USBC ports? Both
9:58support up to 67 watts fast charging,
10:01but only the port on the longer side
10:03supports USB 3.2 2 Gen 1 and Display
10:06Port 1.4. [music] Charging doesn’t take
10:09long as the included charging brick gets
10:11the tablet from zero to full in the
10:13button R. And yes, you actually get a
10:15charger in the box. There’s no bypass
10:17charging here, but oddly enough, there’s
10:19a setting called slow charging hidden in
10:22the game turbo page. As the name
10:24suggests, it slows down the charging
10:26speed to prevent overheating, so playing
10:28games while charging shouldn’t damage
10:30the battery in the long run.
10:31Connectivitywise, the tablet is limited
10:33to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. Before we
10:36move on to our verdict, let’s talk about
10:38the price. The Xiaomi Pad Mini retails
10:40for 25,999
10:42pesos, but during a sale last January,
10:45you were able to snag it at just 18,700
10:48pesos. All things considered, the Xiaomi
10:51Pad Mini gets many things right for its
10:53price. You’re getting a flagship tier
10:55performance, a decent IPS screen, and a
10:57respectable battery life with fast
10:59charging capability, all packed into a
11:01compact frame. In a market where bigger
11:04screens dominate, that alone makes it
11:06stand out. It’s giving more than enough
11:09power for literally any games and smooth
11:11multitasking without feeling overkill
11:13for everyday use. On top of that, the
11:16build quality feels premium and the
11:18lightweight design makes it easy to
11:19carry around. It’s honestly great for
11:21commuting, traveling, or just chilling
11:24on the couch. Overall, the Xiaomi Pad
11:27Mini is one of the most value packed
11:28tablets right now, giving strong
11:30competition even to the likes of the
11:32iPad Mini. If you’re someone looking for
11:34a tablet, the Xiaomi Pad Mini definitely
11:36hits the sweet spot between performance,
11:39portability, and affordable price. But
11:41what do you think of the Xiaomi Pad
11:43Mini? Will you get it anytime soon? We’d
