Honor Band 5 Hands-on

Honor is no stranger when it comes to wearables. In the past years, it has released its own smartwatch as well as fitness trackers. The latter is the more popular one due to its light build, features, and friendly price tag. And one good example is their Honor Band 5.

The Honor Band 5 looks just like your typical fitness tracker. It’s mostly made of plastic and comes in black. There are models with blue and pink straps as well but you can also go to online stores to buy straps of other colors.

The strap is textured while the watch’s body is a combination of matte and glossy. It’s very light on the wrist, slim, and the strap can be adjusted to accommodate the smallest of wrists. A kid can even wear it. It is also replaceable. Just remove the locks under it and pull.

Setting it up requires two apps – Huawei Health and Huawei Mobile Services. Honor and Huawei smartphones already have these apps preinstalled. Other brands though would require you to download it at the Google Play Store. Once the apps are downloaded, turn on the phone’s Bluetooth, launch the Huawei Health app, tap on Devices, and add the Honor Band 5.

When it comes to features, the Honor Band 5 can measure your steps, heart rate, SpO2 levels, and monitor your sleep quality. It can also monitor your fitness activities like outdoor/indoor run or walk, cycling, and swimming since it is water-resistant up to 50 meters.

Other features include message reminders that make the Honor Band 5 vibrate when you get messages or notifications from your favorite apps, phone finder, remote picture taking, and remote music control.

All those information are displayed on a 0.95-inch AMOLED touch display with a pixel density of 282ppi and protected by 2.5D curved glass. You can also change the clock face from the device itself or you can download more using the app.

As for battery life, Honor claims that the Band 5 can go on standby for up to 14 days on a single charge. If you’re going to use the continuous heart rate tracking and sleep tracking, you can still get up to 6 days of use. Charging, on the other hand, is via special cradle that uses microUSB.
