We got another gaming rig assembled specifically for Asrock’s new 890GX Extreme3 board and paired that with the new 6-core AMD Phenom II X6.

Here’s a quick run-down of the specs of the rig:

Motherboard: Asrock 890GX Extreme3
Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.2GHz
Memory: GEIL DDR3 4GB Dual Channel
Video: Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 1GB
Power Supply: Cougar 1000 Watts
Casing: Lancool K62

AMD’s 6-core processors (Phenom II X6) were launched in the Philippines sometime in last week of April 2010.

I ran the system thru PassMark to get some numbers for a baseline benchmark. The numbers for the CPU and the 3D graphics are impressive as well as the over-all rating.

PassMark Performance Test:
CPU Mark: 4961.3
2D Graphics Mark: 285.8
Memory Mark: 791.5
Disk Mark: 776.3
3D Graphics Mark: 2618.0
PassMark Rating: 1438.5

Here’s the screen shot of Windows Experience Index showing a sub-score for the CPU at a high 7.5.

Estimated price of setting up this rig is about Php62,000 (not bad considering this is possibly the best set-up you can do on an AMD processor to date).

onga pala sir abe sana meron din review ng desktop motherboards… pero alam namin na sobrang busy ka na at wala ng time for it sa dami ng product reviews mo… more power to yugatech!

The problem with I3 is that you are basically stuck with an end life motherboard. The AM3 motherboards give room from improvement as AMD’s upcoming Bulldozer processors have backwards compatibility with previous motherbaord chipsets :) Well that’s what AMD said ahaha XD

I would have to agree with fr0stbyte on his comment about gaming. A whole lot of games today are very GPU dependent which means, a decent i3 core paired with a high-end board and GPU would do quite nicely as a gaming rig.

If we’re talking about same-number of cores specs.. You’d have to replace the 1090T with a i7 980X which cost approx. $700 more. Although, I think for gaming you’d only need to have a decent clock speed. I saw this benchmark testing done for i3s, i5s and i7s once. They were all rated at the same speed (2.66GHz if I can remember correctly) and the results showed that FPS was very dependent on the SPEED not the number of cores. Meaning, you’d do well in most games with a decently clocked i3 (which goes for around $110).

This is for serious gaming or graphics application and an overkill for the average user like myself.

I wonder how a similarly-spec’d rig based on Intel’s i7 would fare and cost?

There’s also this thing with 1090T’s power consumption.. It’s actually consumes less power at full load compared to i7s. 54W (76.5 for an i7 920) at idle and 163W (183W, i7 920) at full load. The difference at full load isn’t as big as it was at idle but it just proves the point I was trying to make at my earlier post. It’s interesting to note, though, that an i7 980X can fight it out with a 1090T at full load (172W versus 163W) in terms of efficiency.

Weird.. Why use a 1000W PSU? Tests from XBitLabs prove that you only need that much power if you’re planning to overclock your CPU and/or you do SLI or Crossfire (even for the likes of the ATI 5xxx series). A 650W PSU would do for a normal, un-overclocked system. If you want a little more head room, go with 750W. But yeah, it’s your call. Though, I’d suggest you guys look up a PSU stability list. No use getting a PSU with a high rating if it can’t provide stable power.

download sana nang latest CPU-Z para diyan…maganda ang PC casing para sa airflow, mukhang magastos sa power dahil yata sa 1kw PSU na gamit nito, maganda ang WEI nang bagong 6-core processor, sana may enough fan at airflow dahil mainit na dito sa pinas this time around
