DJI Osmo Pocket 4: Better than ever!

Listen to article

I’ve been spending the past week with DJI’s newest pocket camera powerhouse — the Osmo Pocket 4. I had a long time using the very first Osmo Pocket many years ago and then upgraded to the Pocket 3 just last year. It was our go-to camera for some scenes where a dSLR or mirrorless camera would not be practical.

Then the Osmo Pocket 4 happened. DJI introduced improvements that we were actually longing for. Let me explain them for you in this hands-on review.

The Pocket 4 looks familiar at first glance, but there are some key upgrades. It still packs that compact, pocketable design that makes it perfect for solo travelers or or vloggers. The build quality feels solid, and the new 2-inch rotating OLED screen is brighter and more colorful than before. Turning it vertically for TikTok or Instagram Reels is still smooth and satisfying.

Here’s where the Pocket 4 really shines. DJI upgraded to a 1-inch CMOS sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, and it’s a game-changer. Most shots in low-light situations at night delivered good results. The footage were clean with minimal noise and amazing detail.

The camera delivers 14 stops of dynamic range, which means you get both the darkest shadows and brightest highlights in one shot without blowing out the sky.

It records 4K video up to 240fps for insane slow-motion, plus 10-bit D-Log for professional color grading. The 50-megapixel photos are sharp, and the autofocus is lightning-fast with built-in intelligent tracking.

The 3-axis mechanical gimbal is still here, and it’s better than ever. Walking through crowded streets, the footage stayed buttery smooth. DJI also added ActiveTrack 7.0, which keeps subjects centered even when they move unpredictably.

The built-in mic is decent, but I recommend plugging in the DJI Mic 2 for professional audio. There’s now 107GB internal storage with fast 800MB/s transfer speeds — no need to carry SD cards anymore.

This is a welcome improvement over the Osmo Pocket 3 that did not have any internal storage and you’d have to shell out a few thousand pesos to get one.

Battery life is improved too, with the 1,545mAh battery giving up to 240 minutes of recording. Here are some sample clips we got using the Osmo Pocket 4.

If there is one thing I’d say I did not really like with the new Pocket 4 is that the included protective case isn’t too sturdy compared to the one they used on the Pocket 3. I get a bit worried it might not be enough to protect the camera and gimbal when stowed inside my backpack.

Over-all, I think the Osmo Pocket 4 is a great upgrade. It delivered much on the improvements over its predecessor along with a better camera sensor and video capability.

If you’re a vlogger, traveler, or social media creator, the Pocket 4 is worth every peso. It’s smaller than a mirrorless but punches way above its weight. The low-light performance, stabilization, and 4K/240fps slow-mo make it my new favorite creator gear.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 is now available in the Philippines. The Standard Combo is priced at Php 28,990 and includes the Osmo Pocket 4, USB-C to USB-C PD cable, wrist strap, carrying pouch, handle and gimbal clamp.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 Creator Combo is priced at Php 37,490 and includes everything from the Standard Combo. It also comes with a DJI Mic 3 transmitter magnetic charging cable, carrying bag, mini tripod, fill light, DJI Mic 3 magnet, Osmo Pocket 3 wide-angle lens, DJI Mic 3 transmitter, DJI Mic 3 magnetic clip, one black and one black/gray windscreens.
