So here’s our second item to be featured at YugaDeals — a Core 2 Duo laptop with discrete graphics (NVidia GeForce 105M) from Neo Philippines (Neo Elan L2282 N) with a deal price at netbook-level.

The Elan L2282 is your typical 14-incher laptop for home or office use — nothing fancy, nothing too high-end but coming in with decent specs you can start with for a netbook replacement or secondary laptop (probably even a gift to a niece or nephew who’s going to highschool).

I think the model has been out for about a year now but it’s still has some pretty decent specs. Take note of the discrete graphics (Nvidia GeForce 105M) and the built-in DVD Writer/Player. See complete specs below.

There’s no pre-installed OS here but that should not prevent you from installing your own; and there’s always Ubuntu.

Windows Experience Index gives the CPU a sub-score of 5.5 and the GPU gets a 5.3. Not bad, eh? (the Intel Core i5-470 UM @ 1.33 GHz we reviewed here before got a CPU sub-score of 5.6)

Tried it with battery on and it gave me just over 2 hours on a full charge. Its not really meant for mobility but more like a desktop replacement unit. There are ports for HDMI, ExpressCard and the likes but those were all covered with rubber plugs (seems like these are just optional features).

If you’re looking to upgrade your current laptop to the latest model, this unit might not be for you. But if you’re looking for an affordable laptop to replace your old desktop PC or ageing unit but don’t have enough budget to splurge on the latest Core i3 or i5 with a price tag of Php30k and higher, this is definitely an alternative.

And since it comes with a built-in DVD Writer/Player, you can also hook it up to your TV (or a bigger monitor) to watch DVD movies while using it as a torrent downloader.

I’ve tried to research this brand, and i cant find who/what company manufactures this. Also not in the stock market, so i guess not a publicly listed conpany. Furthermore i see negative reviews on quality.

Where can we get guarantee on this brand? And who is their target market?

adam, i think ganun talaga ang neo with regards to its battery when everything is open. mine does not last for almost an hour too. it has been with me for 2 years na rin pero i have no problems aside from that. i know that it eats alot of battery because, it is a desktop replacement, got an Elan E3103 for 45k. i am planning to buy another one that is portable, a netbook. if i cant get macpro, maybe something with like specs but i will surely first consider its battery.

still, i am loving my neo!

I’m currently using a neo laptop for 2 years now at talagang hindi ok ang battery ng neo. Yung sakin 1 hour lang ang tinatagal ng battery. Sakit sa ulot. I bought my neo laptop for 32K.

nakaka disappoint naman yung mga feature ng yugadeals… yung unang deal na KTC kapareho lang ng price sa mga stores wala namang discount talaga… eto naman ganun din nde nmn tlga deal kasi sobrang luma na ng specs bute pa yung Asus 18-19K ata updated ang specs… Sana naman yung totoong deal talaga hindi yung kapareho lang ng price sa mga stores o kaya naman eh old specs gaya neto…

Abe is right in that aspect: this Neo notebook is best viewed as a desktop replacement, not a traveling laptop.

Efficiency, yes… performance, not even close. Even previous generation Intel Core 2 Duo and discrete Nvidia graphics would outperform AMD Fusion CPU and integrated graphics.

if only this thing is made by asus, i gonna buy this without hesitation. but since this is neo, i think i gonna pass with this one. neo’s aftersales really suck, honestly. i’ll wait for better deals in yugadeals.

it’s possible that brazos/zacate/fusion/e350 (e350 from hereon) is over rated.

WEI for the processors:

e350 = 3.7
T6570 = 5.5

that’s a big difference (got the ‘3.7’ from http://www.yugatech.com/blog/personal-computing/how-does-the-amd-e-350-fare-vs-intels-cpu/).

i have never seen in any benchmark at all where the 1.6 ghz e350 was able to beat an intel proc with 2.1 ghz clock speed.

the only proc that the e350 was able to beat in terms of performance was atom, that was it. the e350 wasn’t even able to beat VIA’s Nano X2 in the benchmarks here http://www.anandtech.com/show/4134/the-brazos-review-amds-e350-supplants-ion-for-miniitx/8

it’s true that the e350 is able to run longer on batteries and in that respect, it’s better than the T6570, but then again when it comes to actual efficiency, the other platforms usually still win. and on a side note about power consumption, it won’t really be fair to compare the T6570 against the e350. the T6570 is a full fledged processor while the e350 isn’t.

according to some forums, when you open a couple of windows with the e350, the system becomes a bit sluggish. i believe that can’t be said of full fledged processors like the T6570.

the igpu of the e350 is really good, but it’s severely bottlenecked by the really slow bobcat processors.

BUT, i’m still getting the E350 :) i have my sights on the Asrock e350M1/USB3.

i just wrote the post above so that people would know what they can really expect from this platform (e350/zacate/brazos/fusion).

@Ron, wow a detailed reply. I got myself MSI’s e350 board. So far, no issues (except for the temperatures that spike to 60 even at idle, but that might be because of the cramped ITX case I use). I’m contemplating on upgrading the RAM to 4GB. I’m also looking forward to buying ASUS’ e350 deluxe ITX board on my next purchase — the fanless design really appeases me.

I can play Prototype and some other graphics intensive games at low to medium settings.

This is not a deal, per se. There are better laptops (the fusion models) like the Lenovo G475 priced at only 19500. The g475 is a much better laptop compared to this one. A longer battery life is also inherent on the new fusion models.
