Samsung demoed their new flagship camera model late last week — the mirrorless compact Samsung NX100 digital camera.

They would not say that it’s an upgrade to the Samsung NX10 but more like a design change to give it a more retro look.

Samsung NX100 specs:
14MP sensor
720p HD video
ISO 100-6400
3.0″ VGA AMOLED display
SD / SDHC card slot
Geo-tagging w/ Optional GPS Module (GPS10)
Samsung Standard Zoom Lens (20-50mm F3.5-5.6 ED)

The lens now incorporates an i Function button that allows users to set manual settings with the focus ring used to change parameters for each setting.

Users can toggle between shutter speed, aperture, EV, WB, and ISO easily/quickly by simply using the i-Function button and ring on the lens.

The body has a more curvy look and departs from the dSLR-type of design on the NX10 we reviewed here earlier. It also comes with a new standard zoom lens (20-50mm f/3.5-5.6). Tried taking photos using the kit lens and photo quality looks similar to the ones I’ve taken with the NX10 as well. The Samsung NX100 retails for Php35,990 in stores.

Gonna buy this camera for my mom in a few days. Really like this camera a lot but the review on http://www.camerareviewland.com/samsung-nx100 says it’s a bad camera, what do you think?

Mga sir, is this mirrorless camera shoot the same speed as a dslr? kasi mga point and shoot maski higher end model mabagal pa rin

@mr8382004 My friend who has an EPL1 says not quite but it’s close, as long as you’re able to prefocus before shooting..

Part of the reasons a dSLR shoots faster is that they don’t have to use an electronic view finder (that LCD, whether it be a small one in the viewfinder or the large one at the back) to compose and provide focus as well as shooting information. All that takes processing power hence takes time. specially since it’s a moving, real time view (well, close to real time since there will always be lag due to processing, what you see IS essentially a video afterall)

Even with the newer dSLRs with what they call “live view”, you will find that using this function, while convenient in some situations, will also provide you with a bit of lag while shooting.

Which is why I seldom use live view even if I have it. The main reasons one uses a dSLR are pixel quality (from the quality and physical size of the sensor, not mega pixel!) and the speed of shooting. If you lose the speed, well you lose a lot IMHO..

If you’re not in a rush or just take your time to set things up you can take really good pictures with practically any camera, its the person’s “eye” and skill that really matters in the end; but there is something to be said about the speed of an SLR, you get more chances to get the right shot and its much, much less frustrating doing so ..
