T3 Philippines Magazine officially shuts down

Last month, I posted the news about T3 Philippines scaling down their operations and focusing their efforts to online but today, I got word that Summit has officially closed its doors on T3.

Here is a copy of a memo sent by Summit Media:

Good Day,

I would like to inform you that Summit Media will no longer pursue T3, both as online and print publisher for the Philippines starting May 2009 as we were unable to come to an agreement with our principals regarding this. We will discontinue our plans to grow both T3 magazine and T3 Online.

We remain committed to the tech industry as a publisher and we believe that the time is ripe to offer our readers a fresh alternative with a new website. That is why we will be launching Techie.com.ph this month. The site promises to give our advertisers a new and dynamic way to communicate and interact with their target market.

Techie.com.ph will be packed with engaging and interactive features. Original content will be updated daily to keep the magazine’s devotees satisfied and at the same time attract the growing number of netizens who don’t rely on print media for their information fix.

The launch of www.techie.com.ph is in line with Summit Media’s goal of providing advertisers a marketing solution that allows them to communicate to a wider, yet more targeted, audience. We are moving to this new platform because we believe that the consumers’ needs and habits have changed. Summit Media is committed to knowing what its target market wants and more importantly, how to talk to them and engage them, regardless of the medium.

To the fiercely loyal T3 readers who might be wondering if the website will be up to par with the magazine they love so much, fear not. Former T3 editor-in-chief Vince Sales will be heading the team to ensure that www.techie.com.ph gives visitors a glitch-free experience.

Again I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting T3 magazine and am looking forward to working with you once more with www.techie.com.ph!

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Neil Palabrica
Former Team Publisher – T3 Magazine

Digital Publisher – Summit Digital

I’ve sent out more questions and will update this post when I get the answers.

T3 had a circulation of around 20,000 – 25,000 per month before it closed. Wasn’t able to get how much Summit Media was paying for the license to use the T3 brand. The new site, Techie.com.ph, will be composed of 4 former T3 writers/editors — Elijah, Vince, Alora, and David.

I’m gonna miss this T3 magazine from my barber shop. Thats where I read it when I get my haircut. I got internet at home and gizmodo, engadget and podcast from iTunes is where I get my tech news.

If you read the press release from Summit Media carefully. Both parties T3 principal owner and Summit simply could reach into agreement financially. Although they didn’t specifically say that. T3 mag Philippines seems to doing a good job. Its not like they are diminishing the value of T3 brand. So instead of paying up to T3’s demand. They decided to do it on their own with an online website.

No more humurous comparison and humorous reviews, no more armpit hairwax challenge, no more gorgeous models, its where i’ve seen Priscilla Mierelles, Mariana Del Rio first time and the brazilian model caught in the act with the HAYDEN CAMERA!

But its good to know that we still have YUGATECH!

    Excelsior!

Interestingly, Summit Media has just published Men’s Health’s counterpart – Women’s Health recently. It looks like fitness and health mag is better than tech and gadget mag…

Wow, what a bummer.T3 was the only reliable ONE out there.again another collection dies.still remember issue number 1..Angelina Jolie..

I noticed the change in the mag’s thickness(or thinness if you will) mid-2008 and the change in paper quality around Dec 2008..tell-tale signs..a big “sayang”..will surely miss the tactile feel of actually reading a magazine(and smelling the ink),eye strain and all..well we always had google…

I just purchased an old issue of T3 mag. I forgot the month but I’m sure it was an issue from last year. That’s so sad really. We will miss t3 and gagdet magazine. Is it true that gadget magazine also discontinued their production of magz?

Hmmm so that’s why I haven’t seen it on the shelves for a while, oh well, at least I can still buy the Singapore version when I pass through the airport there.

I think it was stupid of Summit Media to shut down T3 since it was the gadget mag market leader. Buti na lang Vince Sales is still the editor of the new site so we’re assured the quality is still there. Kung pati siya wala, walang kwenta na talaga! He’s the only reason I bought T3 before–when Ed Geronia became EIC, dun pumanget yung mag (sorry, Ed!). So sana Vince stays on sa bagong website!
