Just got an SMS confirmation from Globe that they’ve already rolled out and servicing customers on their WiMax network. I’m still getting the details but the Inquirer ran the story last night that it will be 512Kbps at Php799 per month. This service will certainly be competing against Smart Bro’s Fixed Wireless offering.
Will update this post once I get the copy of the press release. Intel’s timing was just right when we had the WiMax forum yesterday.

Globe is first in the Philippines to launch Wimax. Available starting March 2009, the company’s WIMAX package is a high-speed Internet plan that lets users surf the web at speeds of up to 512kbps for only PHP795 per month. The package also comes with an aggressive money-back guarantee. “We challenge anyone with a competitive wireless subscription to try out our Wimax-backed plans. We are so confident with our service that we challenge you try out our connection, risk-free. Should you be unhappy with the connection within one month from installation, we’ll give you your money-back, no questions asked,” says Menchi Orlina, head of the Consumer Broadband Business Group.
The service is initially available in selected areas in South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Globe will continue to roll-out hundreds of WiMAX sites, as a complement to its existing DSL and 3G internet facilities, to ensure the internet gets to every Filipino who needs it.

WiMAX is short for Worldwide interoperability for Microwave Access. It is a standards-based technology designed to enable the deployment of wireless broadband access as a cost-efficient alternative to cable and DSL; WIMAX also has improved reach and can cover distances greater than those covered by other wireless technologies like WiFi, CDMA, or 3G.
Globe’s network is considered the first and biggest 2.5Ghz WiMAX (802.16e) broadband network in South East Asia.
comment ko lng..mabagal nga at inconsistent ang speed ng globe wimax..they limit the speed at 300kbps to 500kbps..but try to renew your config using cmd prompt..type ipconfig /renew..maybe it will speed up the internet a little..
oo maganda ung globe wimax sa una….pero pag katapos ng isang buwan….mararanasan mo na kung gaano kabagal ang globe wimax…….ganto samin………parang nang gagago yung may ari nito….mga putang ina nyo…bayad kami ng bayad ng bill kahit wlang connection…….wala pang kwenta serbisyo nila…sasabihin bukas pero wala namang pupunta….putang ina nyo
I currently have Globe Wimax and Globe DSL (3mbps). All I can say is that they have not failed me yet. Consistent ang speed and very stable siya. Sure, there are times when the Wimax connection gets cut off, but it rarely happens.
Overall, very satisfied ako with Globe.
By the way, I live in the Malate area near DLS-CSB.

ako na yata ang my pinakamabagal na connection ng globe e haha ung max download speed 60-70kbps lng madalas 10kbps lng anak ng pateng yan.

im using that wimax with 7 months bad trip no good,mga sinungaling pa mga technician nila na nagaaply ako last year flower festival ng baguio sabi promo, d ata na cemenar nga nga technician nila tapos antagal na nakabit they suggested that wimax,nag apply for land line d nila nakabit,,,now wimax bulok kakasura pag umulan at humangin ung signal shotdown ung antina ata nila gawa sa kahoy,,almost 2 weeks na pinafollow up ng wife q no action we are 1km only along the city of baguio,,,we paid the bill on time but we spend nothing.kung ala lang contract yan matagal q na pinalitan ng smart much better ..sabi nung nag aaply palang aq 1mbps,,tapos nung nakabit na 512kbps,,same daw ng 1mbps,bad trip talaga..

sa lahat ng me problema sa wimax… dalwang factors po yan
1. the antenna is not inline on sight with the tower… daming interference
2. modem is defective..
resolution.. go to the gateway 192.168.1.1

standard globe connection status is
rssi : must be between -40 dBm to -77dBm
1/3 reuse CINR : must be between 16 db to 30 dB
must have BSID, UL_fec and DL_fec
kc kahit substandard mkakabrowse kau pero mabagal lang..
if your gateway is substandard, ung installer nyo ang me problema di po ang system.. i suggest u extend your antenna to max of 15 ft. and rotate it and inline with the globe wimax tower..
wala nakong connection dalawang araw na! haysss! taga cavite ako..waaa.. bat ganon?? please HELP! T_T
Di pa binabalik ng Globe ang pera ko 4 months na. They said 30-day free trial, i terminated the service kasi laging putol, 100 meters away lang ang tower nila. Globe has the worst customer service ever. I will report them to DTI for bad business practice. Sana lang may magawa ang DTI. Kawawa ang customers dito sa Pinas, di kasi marunong magreklamo mga tao. sigh.

and then i called them and they tell me to minimize my usage of nternt… grrrrr!!! what the hec thier telling me… whats the use of having an nternet when they forbid me to used it. what a crap!!!!!!
my frnds were i shouldnt hav gone to globe i should hav gone to pldt or smart bro nstead…. their service and thier network is bullshit…

Npakagago naman talaga ng Globe eh, dapat sa umpisa palang sinabi na nila yung “FAIR POLICY” na tinatawag nila, pinaasa lang nila yung consumer, may pa-package2x pa na 5hkbps at 1mbps, tapos lilimitahan yung gamit ng internet, eh anu yung purpose ng internet, decoration lang bah? paano mo maeenjoy yung binabayaran mo buwan2 eh 20 kbps lang yung pumpasok sayo na data and sometimes no connection, businesses here in our country has gone mad they are only fooling the consumers. hahay.
Hay naku buti nalang nabasa ko mga comments nyo balak ko pa naman sana magpakabit ng Globe Wimax…ok naman daw ang Globe Wimax d2 sa ISABELA PROVINCE napakabilis daw parang DSL…hehehe.. sa una lang yan mabilis pero pagtumagal babagal rin kayaga ng 3G nila..bulok!!! bulok!!! bulok!!
