Just read this yesterday in the newspapers (was it manila Bulletin?) and there’s an ad for PLDT DSL along with their promo for the Guild Wars.
A copy of the full page ad can be found here and if you look closely (or maybe zoom in the image on the lower right corner), the connection speed for Plan 1995 is already at 768Kbps and for only Php3,000 per month, you can get as fast as 2Mbps. *sweet*
At first I thought maybe PLDT has again upgraded the connections of existing broadband subscribers to adjust for this new scheme but I checked my connection at home and it’s still at 512Kbps.
I guess this rate is tied up with the Guild Wars promo. But 2Mbps connection is still way cool. Upgrade me, please!

Hi, nice site, good work! Thank you!
Yes, bayantel is also increasing DSL speeds.
If your gaming performance depends on latency, then increasing the bandwidth from 768 Kb/s to 2 Mb/s won’t help.
I think mas maganda ang PLDT DSL if you’re in to gaming since they are a member of Philippine Internet Exchange on which Globelines isn’t. I’m on Globelines DSL connection and it sad to say that as a gamer it is not recommended if you’re connected to a 768kbps subscription. Perhaps the 2mbps subscription of Globelines is good but I haven’t tried it though.
As far as I know most PLDT myDSL subscribers even at 384 and playing local Philippine games are not experiencing that much lag. But still IT DEPENDS ON WHAT CONNECTION IS THE SERVER OF THAT PARTICULAR GAME, since subscribers and that server will automatically synchronize and will not go ‘AROUND’ it.
Mostly though, game servers are on PLDT myDSL or others that are a member of PhIX and connected to Philippine eXchange backbone. If only Globelines and Bayantel are networked to this then we, the gamers, wouldn’t have any problem in the latency.
Anyway, as for the connection speeds it’s good to know that ISPs here in the Philippines are upgrading. I’ll be getting that 2mbps soon but I’m on Globelines. Haven’t tried PLDT myDSL since it’s still not available here in Bohol, the residential i mean, the the Biz is now available. Hopefully I can compare it soon. A 2mbps would be enough for gaming I think.
Looks like everyone is doing a bandwidth upgrade these days. Thanks to Globe DSL for making the first step into a better broadband age. :D
woohoo! more speed, more download, more anime! anyway this is good for the philippines, its means cheaper broadband and growth in the country leading to more internet growth!
And I thought they just doubled everyone’s DSL speeds?
Bayantel is also increasing DSL speeds. The PhP 900 192k will be 256k burstable to 384k (from 10pm to 10am). The PhP 1,700 384k will be 512k, burstable to 768k. I’m not sure about the higher plan, though.
I’ll get my connection at home within this coming week.
Are we seeing even faster broadband connections in the near future here in the Philippines?
