Coffee Bean goes hi-tech with wireless Order Buzzer

Was just having our regular meetings at the Coffee Bean this afternoon and was surprised the barista gave me this small gadget that looks like a fancy coaster.

The barista then tells me to watch out for the device to light up and vibrate telling me my order is ready.

Not sure how the wireless device operates on but I’m thinking it could be RFID if not WiFi.

I am told this was only rolled out in this branch earlier this week. Really geeky. Really helpful for large and busy coffee shops. I’m thinking some folks might bring these home as trophies. *heh*

Yeah, Chatime and Serenitea has been using these for a while now. Nagtataka nga ako kung bakit wala pang ganyan yung mga ibang big coffee shops dito eh.

Cool. But they might lose some of that “personal touch” especially when they say

“Coffee blah blah for (insert name here)” :)

Pero at least the coffee shop will be less noisy.

They also have this in Chatime. Definitely an RFID, we use the same (smaller ones, as pins) in the hospital where I work to detect those who have failed to do hand hygiene.

More likely RFID than WiFi — latter’s more expensive than the former. Also remember that Chatime and Coffee Bean both offer “free” WiFi, and those devices would eat up some of those IP addresses.

    Could it also be BlueTooth?

They have this in Holly’s Coffee (a Korean coffee chain with a branch in Taft). It’s been there for quite some time now.

Its also a common thing here in Sydney as well. Hope that not everyone there bring the device home with them.

This is very common in South Korea. Glad to hear Coffee Bean is using it as well.
