Globe WiMax Internet is here!

Just got an SMS confirmation from Globe that they’ve already rolled out and servicing customers on their WiMax network. I’m still getting the details but the Inquirer ran the story last night that it will be 512Kbps at Php799 per month. This service will certainly be competing against Smart Bro’s Fixed Wireless offering.

Will update this post once I get the copy of the press release. Intel’s timing was just right when we had the WiMax forum yesterday.

Here’s part of the Press Release I got:

Globe is first in the Philippines to launch Wimax. Available starting March 2009, the company’s WIMAX package is a high-speed Internet plan that lets users surf the web at speeds of up to 512kbps for only PHP795 per month. The package also comes with an aggressive money-back guarantee. “We challenge anyone with a competitive wireless subscription to try out our Wimax-backed plans. We are so confident with our service that we challenge you try out our connection, risk-free. Should you be unhappy with the connection within one month from installation, we’ll give you your money-back, no questions asked,” says Menchi Orlina, head of the Consumer Broadband Business Group.

The service is initially available in selected areas in South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Globe will continue to roll-out hundreds of WiMAX sites, as a complement to its existing DSL and 3G internet facilities, to ensure the internet gets to every Filipino who needs it.

Interested households may call (02)919-8888 or visit the nearest Globe Payments and Services centers for further inquiries.

WiMAX is short for Worldwide interoperability for Microwave Access. It is a standards-based technology designed to enable the deployment of wireless broadband access as a cost-efficient alternative to cable and DSL; WIMAX also has improved reach and can cover distances greater than those covered by other wireless technologies like WiFi, CDMA, or 3G.

Globe’s network is considered the first and biggest 2.5Ghz WiMAX (802.16e) broadband network in South East Asia.

to Rnoldcast, wala silang inoofer na 995 Wimax 3G. Baka 995 na 3G ang sinubscribe mo. Wimax as i asked them is 512kbps pa lang @ 795 ang offered nila. I’m also a Wimax Sub here in Laguna and I’m very satisfied naman.

I am very dissapointed with Globe…I got their new plan 995 WiMax 3G last week (Internet Only). I am from Imus Cavite. As i have spoke with globe personnel they promise me to give 512kbps or at least 60% of the speed.
Since last week after installation i am only getting an average of 110kbps DL and 40kbps UL, i reported this several times and still WALANG PAGBABAGO MAS LUMALA PA. Two of their Contractor technician pass by in my house last sunday but still reported globe internal problem. And yesterday they sent me the first bill, which was supposed to be after a month. Dyan sila magaling sa singilan pero sa services di nila inaaksyunan. I will report this today and i want to disconnect from their services. Its not worth what are you paying for!

512kbps, ang bagal. Para lang talaga kumita sila. Hehe. Kasi dapat atleast 1-2 Mbps bigay nila. They’re just over subscribing, for example, instead of 1000+ users per T1 satellite, they divide it into 2000+. Kaya bumabagal connections.

Btw, I think weather has minimal effect on your wimax connection unless may bagyo na talaga, the problem is more with network congestion. I believe Wi-Max is NLOS, non line of sight.

    Hello Guys,

I told Globe about some of your issues with their WiMax service. They said they’d be glad to help you out as long as you provide details about your accounts so they can check it.

ang tanong….makakadownload ba ako agad sa rapidshare and other file sites? natakot na akong magtry sa globe after kong makita na hindi ka agad makakadownload sa rapidshare gawa ng ip na gamit nila. even sa torrents madidismaya ka buti na lang di ko pa agad pinadisconnect smartbro 999 ko. sana maupgrade na ng smart and connection ng mga canopy subscribers nila kahit 512 kbps lng din…..or 768kbps….
