The Mac App Store is now online!

Listen to article

Apple has just fired up the Mac App Store. With over 1,000 apps for the Mac, the App Store makes it easier for anyone with a Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard to just download and install apps.

However, the apps aren’t your usual ones for the iPhone and the iPad which are normally in the few megabytes. The apps there, like iMovie, can go for 563MB and can take some time to be fully downloaded.

The Mac Apps aren’t cheap either — Aperture costs $79.99 although some of the games could be as low as $4.99 like Flight Control HD.

The Mac App Store hopes to increase awareness of softwares for Mac and probably help curb software piracy (a similar issue Apple somehow helped with music piracy by introducing the iTunes Music Store).

This is nothing revolutionary. The Mac App Store is just like Steam for apps. Also Linux have distribution repositories since year <2000 (in early 2009 we got this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/2/24/200909*******9!Ubuntu_Software_Center.png). Don't forget the existence of CNet's "download.com" prior (makes wannabe's point moot – you can always buy legit software regardless of platform be it Mac or Windows, people just opt not to and would rather download bootleg copies). As (14) would say, "finally".

Finally they got their own app store for the mac. I run linux (ubuntu) on my laptop and i find having an app manager important. (auto update installed apps, repository for popular apps, ratings/comments) no need to have offline installations of apps on your hard drive.

Kung affordable lang sana ang apple gadgets nag MAc na sana ako. Pero solve na ako sa mga Windows bases gadgets, mostly affordable and a variety of choices you can select.

The best talaga kasi you can use iTunes Gift Card to buy those Apps and you can install it up to 5 Mac’s. Sulit na sulit bayad mo. Legit pa.

You might to do a little bit more research on the prices.

Aperture for example is so much cheaper now compared to the original price of US$199.00.

There are a few other gems there that are much cheaper than what’s listed on even the developers site.

Yup @Teknisyan you’re right it will be sure that it is virus free, because developers submitting apps should undergo tests their apps before release.hehe

This is Apple’s way of saying “Disc installer are obsolete!” plus this will ensure that the software that you are downloading and installing are virus and malware free!!!

I sure hope they open this to Windows OS as well.. that’s just wishful thinking!!!
