Toshiba NB200 netbook sells shy of Php30k

Listen to article

Toshiba’s entry into the netbook market never really landed in the Philippines with the first model (the 9″ NB100) launched last year in Singapore. The 10-inch Toshiba NB200 now goes on sale at CompLink.

There are two models, the NB200-11H that has an N270 and the NB200-11L with the newer N280.

toshiba nb200
Intel Atom Processor N270 1.6GHz
1024MB DDR2 RAM
160GB HDD
Intel GMA 950 graphics
WiFi 802.11 b/g
5-in-1 Card Reader
VGA webcam
3-cell battery
Microsoft Windows XP Home

Complink is selling the Toshiba NB200-11H for Php29,990. Looks like Toshiba is just doing the me-too strategy with netbooks and is not really looking to sell a lot (unless you’re a loyal Toshiba customer). Their price points for the 9″ and 10″ are like a year too late.

id really go for this nb-200 if only it has 2GBRAM, the package must include ODD, and at least 250GB capacity of HDD, to make it fair for the price of 28k-30k pesos..just my opinion..

I mean 6-cell. My bad. :P Pero bad trip ha! So unfair!

This is ridiculous. The NB200 is about 10grand more expensive than the US release and it doesn’t even include the 9-cell battery that’s supposed to boost the NB’s battery life to up to 9 hours. Processor isn’t even updated. >:(

Correction: It should read: External slim multi DVD-burner instead of “external hard drive”

I got mine for $479 Canadian dollars. 6 cell battery which is good for 9 hours. Also, it came with slim external hard drive for free. The only thing I change was the memory. I purchased 2 Gig memory chip for $29 bucks, replaced the old 1Gig original memory.

correction: it’s not 5-in-1 card reader, it’s just a 2-in-1 card reader (SD card and MMC). it’s only selling S$799 here in sg. it’s always more expensive jan sa pinas.

while i am dazzled at the Toshiba NB200 as I saw it in one of the computer shops in Trinoma, this leaves to a question, will it ever take off at a price point like that?

Jay, you’re correct, unles they will crammed those specs you mentioned into that netbook, people will reconsider their buying frenzies.

Tosh are definitely nuts.

Who in the right mind gonna buy a netbook with all the same spec as with every other Asus, Acer, HP, Lenovo..? Well unless it’s feature packed they could actually sell this unit at 30K. Let’s say..

Unlocked 3G/HSDPA/HSUPA
Atom 2GhZ Z550
Nvidia ION / GN40 Graphics
12Hour Battery Life
Wifi a/b/g/n
HDMI
Express Card Slot
1.3Mgpxl Camera
250GB SSD
2GB RAM
Good keyboard
Responsive touchpad and
Light weight

move along now.
nothing revolutionary here.

Please note that Complink did sell the Toshiba NB100 last year for P27,990. The page for this product is no longer available but I noted this at my blog last December 2008.

Guess it never really caught on.

maybe Toshiba NB200 is postioning itself at the same market with the Asus Eee PC S101, hence the insanely hyped up price tag.

Price is high for those specs. Granted, Toshiba machines are quite sturdy, but gah, you can get those same specs for P5k-8k less. I’d still choose my HP Mini 2140 over that even though I’m a big Toshiba fan.

hard core Toshiba fanboys will definitely snap one, though pricing it a tad lower will make it more appealing for a broader market
