Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the US Department of State: Consular Affairs is urging foreign medical professionals to apply for visas.

Especially those doctors and nurses working on COVID-19 related issues are encouraged to reach out to their nearest US Embassy or Consulate and request a visa appointment.

Foreign medical professionals that are already in the states are also encouraged to extend their visas. Medical residents with J-1 visas may also consult their program sponsor, the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), to extend their programs in the US. According to the Department of State, J-1 visa holders may extend their visas one year at a time, up to seven years.

For more information, check out their official press release here. For medical residents and professionals looking to extend their stay, or adjust their visa status, check out USCIS’ website here.
