0:00The Canon EOSR6V marks a new chapter in
0:03Canon’s video first full-frame
0:05mirrorless lineup. While it shares
0:07plenty of DNA with the EOSR6 Mark III,
0:11this new model shifts its focus towards
0:13hybrid creators, filmmakers, and solo
0:16productions by introducing cinema
0:18inpired controls, internal cooling,
0:20power zoom lens support, and workflow
0:23enhancements designed around modern
0:25content creation. paired with Canon’s
0:28new RF 20 to 50mm F4L, which is the
0:31company’s first L series RF power zoom
0:35lens. After spending time looking at
0:37what both products bring to the table,
0:40it’s clear Canon isn’t simply
0:42repackaging an existing camera. Instead,
0:45it’s refining one of its most popular
0:47full-frame mirrorless platforms into
0:50something that’s equally great at
0:52shooting stills and high production
0:54video. Let’s get into it.
1:03At first glance, the EOSR6V looks
1:06familiar, but its differences quickly
1:08become apparent once you start shooting.
1:11The magnesium alloy body features
1:13Canon’s dust and drip resistant ceiling
1:16despite incorporating an internal
1:18cooling fan, which came to much surprise
1:21for us because we assumed that internal
1:24fan would strip the weather sealing
1:26away. It’s a noteworthy engineering feat
1:29considering the vented design. The grip
1:31remains deep, just not as deep as with
1:34the R six Mark III and comfortable
1:36enough for long shooting sessions even
1:38with heavier RF lenses. It actually
1:40reminds us a lot of the Sony FX3’s form
1:44factor, which is a good thing. The R
1:46sixV actively manages heat, allowing
1:48significantly longer recording sessions
1:50without the thermal concerns that many
1:52hybrid shooters have come to expect. We
1:55can customize its setting to be
1:57completely turned off or on, or set it
2:00to auto with additional adjustments for
2:02its fan speed, which is low, medium, or
2:05high. Canon also redesigned several
2:07controls around video production.
2:09Dedicated movie functions are easier to
2:11access. Recording buttons are positioned
2:14for both traditional and selfie
2:16shooting, while multiple customizable
2:18buttons make it easy to tailor the
2:20camera to an individual’s
2:23preferred workflow. The camera also
2:25features one CF Express TypeB slot and
2:27one UHS2 SD card slot, a full-sized HDMI
2:32port, microphone input, headphone
2:34output, USBC with power delivery, and a
2:372.5 mm sub mini terminal for wired
2:40remote triggers, making it far more
2:42productionfriendly than previous
2:43generations. And for those customizable
2:46buttons, they total to seven, which
2:49again users can remap to their liking.
2:51We had six set to false color. And just
2:54like the R50V, we get a front tally
2:57light and/420 threads for both
2:59horizontal and vertical mounting. Like
3:02we mentioned earlier, paired with our R
3:03sixV is the brand new Canon RF 20 to
3:0650mm F4L power zoom. Unlike conventional
3:10zoom lenses, this one uses an
3:12electronically controlled internal power
3:14zoom mechanism, which I thought was
3:17gimmicky at first, but after actually
3:20using it for this review, I’ve come to
3:22realize it’s a pretty great addition,
3:24especially for solo videographers. Zoom
3:26movements are smooth and silent, making
3:28it ideal for cinematic push-ins,
3:31interviews, and live productions where
3:33consistency matters. It’s actually
3:35pretty useful for parallax zooms, too.
3:41Despite being an L series lens, 20 to 50
3:44mm is surprisingly compact and balances
3:47extremely well on the EOS R6V. Since the
3:50zoom is fully internal, the lens never
3:53extends while zooming, which is also a
3:56huge advantage when using gimbals.
3:59Lastly, the Canon R sixV weighs 688 g
4:02fitted with a battery and SD card and
4:061.1 kilos with the lens. we have paired
4:08up with it. With the body alone or even
4:11with the lens, the overall weight feels
4:14quite light in our opinion. The only
4:16reason to add more weight would be to
4:18accommodate a cage for adding mounting
4:20points for other external accessories or
4:23maybe even lens filters, but the ladder
4:25shouldn’t weigh too much. Overall, for
4:28its design and construction, the
4:30weight’s good, it feels sturdy, and
4:33ergonomics has always been a strong
4:35point for Canon, and it’s no different
4:37here. Canon equips the EOS R6V with a
4:39fully articulating 3-in touchscreen LCD
4:42that remains one of the easiest camera
4:44interfaces to use today. The touch
4:47interface is responsive, menus are
4:49clean, and well organized. Anyone
4:51familiar with Canon cameras will
4:53immediately feel at home with the
4:55EOSR6V’s
4:57user interface. Video shooters will
4:59appreciate the addition of waveform
5:01monitoring, false color, focus peaking,
5:04zebras, and customizable shooting
5:06overlays that previously required
5:08stepping into Canon Cinema EOS
5:10territory. Quick tip. Canon R sixV end
5:13users may want to turn off the screen
5:15dimming for power saving as it did get a
5:18little annoying when the screen would
5:20dim while recording at times. Inside the
5:23EOS R6V is Canon’s proven 32.5 megapixel
5:27full-frame CMOS sensor paired with a
5:30Digic X processor. Compared to its
5:32sibling, the EOS R six Mark III, the R
5:35sixV ditches the mechanical shutter,
5:37electronic viewfinder, and one stop of
5:40IBIS. Despite that, image quality
5:43remains excellent, delivering detailed
5:45RAW files with Canon’s signature color
5:47science, and pleasing skin tones
5:49straight out of camera. Dynamic range
5:52offers plenty of flexibility during
5:54post-processing, while high ISO
5:56performance continues to impress. Even
5:59at ISO values well beyond 6400, images
6:02retain usable detail with relatively
6:05controlled noise levels, making the
6:07camera well suited for any type of
6:09coverage like weddings, events, and
6:12documentaries. But be warned that
6:14ditching the mechanical shutter probably
6:16means inviting rolling shutter for
6:19fast-paced sports photography. So if
6:21that’s something you shoot stills for a
6:23lot, this probably isn’t the body for
6:26you. Dual Pixel Simos autofocus version
6:292 delivers incredibly reliable subject
6:31detection with human, animal, vehicle,
6:35aircraft, and train recognition. Eye
6:37tracking stays remarkably sticky even
6:40during unpredictable movement. While
6:42focus transitions remain smooth enough
6:44for professional video work with the
6:46RF20 to 50 mm power zoom. Autofocus
6:49performance feels nearly instantaneous.
6:53Canon’s Nano USM focusing system is both
6:55quick and virtually silent, making it
6:58excellent for interviews, weddings,
7:01travel content, and commercial
7:03productions where focus breathing and
7:05motor noise become distracting.
7:07Optically, the lens is impressive
7:09throughout most of its zoom range.
7:11Sharpness remains consistently high from
7:14edge to edge. Contrast is excellent.
7:17Flare resistance is what we’d expect
7:19from an L series lens. and image
7:21stabilization works together with the
7:23camera’s 7.5 stops of inbody image
7:25stabilization to produce remarkably
7:28stable handheld footage. And no, we
7:32didn’t actually ever feel the need to
7:33dabble into the R sixV’s electronic
7:36image stabilization features with the
7:38setup. Video features are where the EOS
7:40R6V truly separates itself from previous
7:43EOSR cameras. I mean, that is why it’s
7:47called the R sixV and not the R six Mark
7:51III. Canon clearly designed this camera
7:53with filmmakers and more video focused
7:56hybrid creators in mind. The EOS R6V
7:59supports over sampled 4K recording with
8:02opengate, which basically means using
8:04the full width of its sensor, delivering
8:07exceptionally detailed footage without
8:09sacrificing field of view. We have all
8:11the usual 4K frame rates here from 24 to
8:1460p. Some great additions here are 4K at
8:18120p or 2K or full HD at 180p for slow
8:21motion work. Just make sure OpenGate is
8:24turned off to access the slow-mo frame
8:26rates. Professional recording formats
8:28include 10 bit 42:2 internal recording,
8:31Canon Log 3, HDRPQ, and multiple XF
8:35recording codecs that integrate easily
8:37into professional editing workflows. Low
8:39light performance is also commendable.
8:42For video, we get a dual base ISO of 800
8:44and 6400, which means you’d get less
8:48noise if you were on ISO 6400
8:52versus something lower like 3,200 for
8:55those not in the no. And the
8:58affforementioned addition of active
9:00cooling is arguably the biggest upgrade
9:03compared to its brother, the R six Mark
9:06III. extended productions become much
9:08less stressful with overheating no
9:11longer a practical concern under normal
9:13operating conditions. In our use, never
9:16did the R sixV come close to the
9:19overheating limit, although we mostly
9:21only filmed short clips in multiple
9:23bursts for this review. The power zoom
9:25lens itself offers multiple selectable
9:27zoom speeds, allowing smooth cinematic
9:30zooms that simply aren’t possible with a
9:32traditional manual zoom ring without a
9:35follow focus. Zoom starts and stops are
9:38gradual and repeatable, making footage
9:40look significantly more polished in our
9:43opinion. Combined, the camera and lens
9:46feel purpose-built for modern creators
9:48who regularly switch between YouTube
9:50videos, documentaries, short form
9:53content, corporate work, and commercial
9:55productions, and maybe even some gorilla
9:58film making here and there. The EOS R6V
10:00continues using Canon’s LP E6P battery,
10:03delivering battery life that’s more than
10:06respectable for a camera in this class.
10:08Depending on recording settings, users
10:11can comfortably expect around 2 hours of
10:13continuous recording per battery, while
10:16still photography stretches considerably
10:18further. Support for USBC power delivery
10:21again is another welcome addition,
10:23allowing creators to run the camera
10:25directly from compatible power banks or
10:28AC adapters during prolonged shooting
10:30sessions. For professional event
10:32shooters, carrying two to three
10:34batteries remain the safest approach,
10:38but the camera’s efficient power
10:40management means battery anxiety rarely
10:42becomes a major concern. To conclude, we
10:46really enjoyed our time with this camera
10:48and lens combo. The Canon EOSR 6V isn’t
10:52simply an EOS R six Mark III with a fan.
10:55Instead, it’s Canon’s answer to creators
10:58who need the image quality of a
10:59full-frame hybrid camera, but the
11:02workflow, reliability, and recording
11:04endurance of a cinema focused system. To
11:07us, this body sits right below the EOS
11:11R5C. The addition of active cooling,
11:14video focused features, expanded codec
11:16support, and refined ergonomics make it
11:19significantly more attractive for
11:21filmmakers or video focused shooters.
11:24Meanwhile, the new Canon RF 20 to 50mm
11:26f4ism
11:28power zoom proves to be an equally
11:31important part of the equation. Its
11:34internal power zoom, constant F4
11:36aperture, excellent optics, and L series
11:39build quality make it one of the most
11:42compelling standard zoom lenses Canon
11:44has released for video creators.
11:46Together they form a system that’s
11:49equally comfortable shooting pretty much
11:51any kind of video project. And that zoom
11:55range is just the most perfect walk and
11:58shoot setup you can get in my opinion
12:01without it being too overly frontheavy.
12:05Of course, this setup isn’t inexpensive
12:08and photographers who primarily shoot
12:10stills may find better value elsewhere
12:12in Canon’s lineup. However, for hybrid
12:15creators looking to invest in a
12:17professional full-frame ecosystem that
12:20places video first without sacrificing
12:23photography performance, the Canon EOS
12:26R6V paired with the RF 20-50 FRL power
12:29zoom is shaping up to be one of the
12:32strongest creator focus combinations
12:34Canon has produced to date. The Canon
12:37EOS R6V gets an official local SRP of
12:41148,998
12:43pesos for the body only and 229,998
12:48pesos paired with the RF20 to50 FRL
12:51power zoom from official Canon
12:54Philippines distributors. But what do
12:57you guys think of the Canon EOS R6V? Is
13:00it time to upgrade? Have you switched
13:02away from Canon? Is it time to switch
