Similar to how smartphones became an extension of ourselves, smartwatches also became an extension of our smartphones. These highly-functional wearables not only tell time but also help us keep track of our health. However, choosing the right smartwatch can be challenging nowadays as there are plenty of them in the market. But if you’re looking at the high-end models for Android, these two models come to mind –the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Watch3. Which one should you get? Find out below.
Table of Contents
One of the main factors to consider when choosing the right smartwatch is the design and the materials used, and we’re glad to say that both of these smartwatches look elegant and well-designed using high-quality materials. The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro’s body is milled out of titanium while the Samsung Galaxy Watch3, on the other hand, is made of stainless steel, but a more expensive titanium version is also available. One feature that we like on the Galaxy Watch3 is its rotating bezel for easier UI navigation.
For bands, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro comes with either a silicone band, if you prefer a more sporty look. If you want to be classy, there’s a traditional leather strap as well. On the Samsung Galaxy Watch3, you can choose between a leather strap or a metal strap, which makes it look more like a traditional timepiece.
In terms of materials, we prefer the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro because it features a titanium body that is more durable than stainless steel that is on the standard Samsung Galaxy Watch3. But when it comes to the overall design, we like the Samsung Galaxy Watch3 more because of its rotating bezel and a more traditional watch aesthetic.
The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro features a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen with a 454 x 454 HD resolution while the Samsung Galaxy Watch3 comes in a 1.4-inch Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 360 x 360. Both have a pixel density of 326ppi. Both displays produce rich colors and deep blacks and are vibrant enough for outdoor use.
When it comes to screen protection, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro boasts sapphire glass which is tougher than Corning Gorilla Glass DX found on the Samsung Galaxy Watch3.
In this category, we choose the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro over the Galaxy Watch3 since it does have a more durable sapphire glass protection on both the display and sensors underneath.
For connectivity, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro uses Bluetooth 5.1 LE / EDR to connect with your smartphone, while the Samsung Galaxy Watch3 has Bluetooth 5.0 A2DP / LE. There’s no WLAN present on the GT 2 Pro, unlike on the Galaxy Watch3 which supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. As for location mapping, the GT 2 Pro comes equipped with GPS, GLONASS, and GALILEO, while the Galaxy Watch3 has GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO.
These wearables have a companion app mainly for customization, tracking data, firmware updates, and such, which are available and compatible on both Android and iOS.
When it comes to sensors, the GT 2 Pro comes equipped with an accelerometer, gyro, heart rate, barometer, compass, SpO2, VO2max. The Galaxy Watch3 on the other hand, sports an accelerometer, gyro, heart rate, barometer, and blood pressure monitor.
The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro also has a 6-in-1 LED lens with sapphire glass that can record and monitor your data more accurately. While the Samsung Galaxy Watch3 sports an optical sensor which is the same sensor found on the Galaxy Watch2. We’re choosing the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro as the winner in this category.
Running on the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is Huawei Lite OS and features 102 workout modes, such as golfing, skiing, surfing, snowboarding, triathlon, elliptical, Rower just to name a few. The Samsung Galaxy Watch3 on the other hand offers only 38 workout modes such as running, walking, swimming — the basic workouts. The Galaxy Watch3 runs on Tizen-based wearable OS 5.5. Both of these smartwatches have a plethora of customizable watch faces to suit your mood and personality. Also, it is worth mentioning that both of these wearables are IP68 water-resistant, meaning it can be submerged up to 50 meters of water for 30 minutes.
If you have a Huawei device, you can also take advantage of its OneHop feature, allowing you to transfer a photo from your Huawei smartphone, and use it as a custom watch face, which is a cool feature if you’re the type who changes watch faces frequently.
In this category, we picked the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro over the Samsung Galaxy Watch3 because of the OneHop feature’s convenience. Also, it packs workout modes that are not supported on the Galaxy Watch3.
Powering the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is a Kirin A1 processor, 32MB of RAM, and 4GB of storage. As for the Galaxy Watch3, we get an Exynos 9110 coupled with Mali-T720 GPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. The latter wins in terms of RAM and storage capacity but both smartwatches perform well when it comes to daily use.
The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro offers a 455 mAh battery and can last up to 2-weeks of battery life depending on your usage. As for the Samsung Galaxy Watch3, it does have a bit smaller 340 mAh, which the company says can only last for a couple of days. Both smartwatches can be charged wirelessly via their proprietary puck that comes included in the box. So, in terms of mileage, you will get the most out of the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro.

Clearly, the former is a great option if you’re on a tight budget.
Both the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Watch3 are great smartwatches that offer many features. Normally, you would pick the smartwatch of the same brand as your smartphone for better cohesiveness, but given that these two wearables work with whatever Android smartphone that you have, that’s not always the case anymore. While we like the traditional timepiece look and large RAM and storage capacity of the Samsung Galaxy Watch3, we can’t ignore the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro’s titanium body, sapphire glass, longer battery life, and much affordable price. So, if you’re on a tight budget but looking for a premium smartwatch that packs plenty of features, we recommend the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro.
