In what could be the biggest news in the tech industry this year, the United States has imposed a trade ban on Huawei. This means that US companies are not allowed to make business transactions with Huawei without prior approval from the US government.
The first on the list would be Google and its operating system Android. This was followed by Intel and Qualcomm but there are actually a lot more US companies that might be included. Here’s what we know so far:
Microsoft provides Windows operating system and MS Office applications to Huawei laptops.
Corning
Corning supplies the Gorilla Glass that is used in most of Huawei flagship smartphones, the latest of which is the Huawei P30 series. Huawei might switch suppliers to the likes of Asahi (Dragontrail Glass).
Seagate
Seagate is an American data storage company that provides storage solutions to Huawei.
NVidia
NVidia provides the MX150 GPU for the Huawei Matebook 13.
Western Digital
WD, and its subsidiary Sandisk, provides data storage solutions to Huawei.
Micron Technology, Inc.
This Idaho-based company is a holding company for subsidiaries engaged in the design and production of computers, semiconductors, and other related products. The subsidiaries produce many forms of semiconductor devices, including dynamic random-access memory, flash memory, USB flash drives and solid-state drives. Its consumer products are marketed under the brands Crucial and Ballistix. Micron and Intel together created IM Flash Technologies, which produces NAND flash memory.
Flex
Formerly named Flextronics, it’s the 3rd largest l electronics manufacturing services and original design manufacturing company by revenue, second to Pegatron.
Broadcom Corporation
Broadcomm is an American fabless semiconductor company that made products for the wireless and broadband communication industry. It was acquired by Avago Technologies in 2016 and currently operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of the merged entity Broadcom Inc. Broadcom’s product line spans computer and telecommunication networking and could be supplying parts for Huawei routers.
Qorvo
Qorvo is an American semiconductor company that designs, manufactures, and supplies radio-frequency systems and solutions for applications that drive wireless and broadband communications, as well as foundry services.
Skyworks
Skyworks manufactures semiconductors for use in radio frequency (RF) and mobile communications systems. Its products include power amplifiers, front-end modules and RF products for handsets and wireless infrastructure equipment.
Analog Devices, Inc.
Analog is semiconductor company specializing in data conversion, signal processing and power management technology.
Included in the list, though with minor impact, are Marvell Technology, Keysight Technology, Maxim Integrated, Texas Instruments, Lumentum and NeoPhonetics.
