Globe At Home Fiber-To-The-Room (FTTR): Your Ideal Intelligent Home WiFi Solution

If you’ve been wanting a fast and reliable internet connection, then I’m sure you’ve heard about fiber internet. And if you’ve been encountering dead spots at home, then you might have heard about solving it with a WiFi mesh.

In most cases, a fiber connection with a WiFi mesh network is enough, but if you’re wondering if it can be better, yes, there is a better way.

Globe Fttr Product

Globe recently announced that with their Globe At Home broadband service, they are now the first telco provider in the country, and the entire Southeast Asia, to launch the latest WiFi technology available — Fiber-To-The-Room or more commonly called FTTR.

The goal of FTTR is to provide a 1-Gigabit-per-second connection for whole home coverage as we move into Gigabit Homes. Customers can experience ultra-fast connection, ultra-seamless coverage, and ultra-low latency anywhere at home.

Currently, the most common method is to connect the home to a fiber line and then use WiFi mesh nodes to cover the rest of the house. However, since it works via a wireless network, the structure and material composition of the house can affect the WiFi performance.

Huge houses with thick walls and multiple floors can be very tricky. The further the node is from the main router, the slower the internet speed it can deliver.

Users who are close to the main router will probably get the best speeds but as you move away and connect to other nodes, you will experience a less ideal internet connection.

In other words, a traditional mesh network will most likely deliver inconsistent speeds, even sudden drops in connection, depending on your location in the house. You might get 100 Mbps speeds in the living room but that might degrade to just 50 Mbps in the bedroom.

Enter Fiber-to-the-Room technology.

What is Globe At Home’s Fiber-to-the-Room (FTTR) technology

Without being too technical, Globe At Home Fiber-to-the-Room or FTTR technology employs a similar concept, but instead of the nodes connecting to each other wirelessly, they’ll be connected with physical wires.

This completely eliminates the signal loss and internet strength you usually find with traditional mesh networks.

You also won’t see any cables hugging the walls of your home like how cable TV contractors install coaxial cables.

Instead, it uses a transparent optical cable using a hot-melt telescopic adhesive solution, that’s practically invisible to the naked eye and has a very small or negligible footprint. This is a great feature for those who care about home aesthetics!

FTTR technology also brings a fiber connection to each key room in the house. The rooms will have their own terminals where you can connect WiFi 6 routers so you can start enjoying fast, consistent, and stable wireless internet wherever you are in the house.

What are the benefits of FTTR?

Obviously, one of the main advantages of having an FTTR network is its 1-Gigabit-per-second speed wired mesh that covers the entire home.

If you’re wondering how this can actually benefit your day-to-day, well just imagine–uploading large files to your cloud in just a few seconds; streaming your favorite shows without any interruptions; connecting as many IoT and gaming devices without sacrificing any speed; and leading work video conferences or social video calls seamlessly!
Using Laptop
Moreover, FTTR allows you to connect up to 128 devices simultaneously, without any loss in performance – perfect for families who use tons of gadgets and tech.

Lastly, the FTTR solution is future-proof as you don’t need to change cables.

Globe Fttr Router
So in the future, you can replace and upgrade your routers and just connect it to the FTTR network.

Should you get Globe At Home’s FTTR technology?

FTTR is perfect for big, multi-level houses that need lots of ground coverage, or intelligent homes that have multiple smart devices connected to the internet. Globe At Home’s FTTR can solve their wireless connectivity woes and deliver fast and consistent internet.

Where to get FTTR?

I’m already enjoying a similar setup for the past 3 years where I have gigabit ethernet cables connecting all my mesh nodes via an ethernet backhaul. Great job for monetizing already existing technology for aesthetics. While I agree that running ethernet cables around the house is unsightly, I spent just a few hundred pesos for the ethernet cables.

Not a lot of people need this. PSA: People should also know that they can do this with their existing mesh if they have at least two lan ports. You can daisy chain it. Works the same way :)
