Indie Games to try during Steam’s Lunar Sale

Steam’s sales are always a good time to try out new games. This Lunar Sale, we’ve made a list of indie games that you may or may not have heard of but should try out. Take a look!

Disco Elysium

Starting with ZA/UM’s Disco Elysium, the game was awarded by the Game Awards as 2019’s Best Narrative, Role Playing Game, Debut Indie Game, and Independent Game. Disco Elysium is a single-player, open-world RPG where you play as a detective interrogating characters, cracking murders, or taking bribes. Players have the freedom to choose from a variety of actions to take, 24 different skills, 14 different tools, and six psychoactive substances to take. There are also 80 different clothing choices for customization, and 60 “wild thoughts to think” in the detective’s Thought Cabinet.

Killing Floor 2

Ever wanted to play a graphically updated Left4Dead game? Or maybe want to sit back, relax, and mindlessly kill some zombies? Killing Floor 2 may be the game you’re looking for! Developed by Tripwire Interactive, Killing Floor 2 is a first-person shooter that you can play solo, or with (up to) 6 friends. Players are placed in hot zones to try and exterminate the Zeds. There’s a lot of weapons to choose from and it also has an expanded perk system, melee combat, and a slow-motion action called Zed-time. There’s also a 12-player PVP mode where players take turns as the humans and zombies.

Slay The Spire

Slay the Spire is a turn-based game developed by MegaCrit. Each game is different, as you’re given a choice between one of four characters, a different map layout, and you choose which path to traverse. There’s a deck-building element into the game, where you play cards with your turn that costs varying amounts of energy to use. There are also relics that provide you bonuses to help you with your journey. The game features:

  • Four characters with a unique set of cards
  • 350+ fully implemented cards
  • 200+ different items
  • 50+ unique combat encounters
  • 50+mysterious events
  • Daily Climbs with world rankings
  • and a Custom Mode that allows you to mix and match run modifiers

Subnautica

If adventure games are more your style, then you might be interested in Unknown Worlds Entertainment’s Subnautica. Your character has crash-landed on an alien ocean world, with limited water and food. Your goal is to explore the oceans and survive with the help of the tools, suits, and habitat modules you craft. The game features oxygen and pressure management, constructible habitats, and deadly predators at night.

Kenshi

For open-ended sandbox lovers, you might want to take a look at Kenshi from Lo-Fi Games. It’s a single-player free-roaming squad based RPG that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where you can be anything and anyone. While it isn’t as visually stunning as other games, it’s gameplay and freedom of choice gives it a unique twist to other sandbox games. There’s too much to cover due to the game’s depth, but good thing Lo-Fi has provided us with a free trial version which you can download here.

It’s currently on sale for PHP487.46 (25% off).

Risk of Rain 2

Lastly, Hopoo Games’ Risk of Rain 2 is a co-op action game that allows you to play with up to four of your friends. Your goal is to find your way to escape the planet, fighting hordes of monsters and bosses along the way. There are 75 unlockable items over time and different survivors with abilities to keep each run unique and fresh.

It can be purchased on the Steam store for PHP 359.96 (20% off).
