Grab has just launched its first-ever hackathon named the AI for Southeast Asia challenge.

Grab is calling for participants who are versed in technology to join the hackathon. In the AI for Southeast Asia challenge, Grab aims to promote the use of data and AI to solve urban challenges in Southeast Asia, mainly traffic congestion and safety.

The hackathon has three themes, namely, Traffic Management, Computer Vision, and Safety. In Traffic Management, participants are encouraged to use Grab’s data to build an AI model and solve traffic congestion in Southeast Asia’s roads. In Computer Vision, participants are asked to build a data model that can optimize and automate the process of identifying a Grab vehicle’s details. Lastly, in Safety, participants are asked to offer an AI-based solution on how it can proactively identify dangerous or reckless driver in real time and prevent accidents from happening.

Candidates will be evaluated in four criteria, namely code quality, creativity, feature engineering, and model performance. The top 50 participants will be offered a full-time position in Grab. In addition to that, the top 5 will also be receiving cash prizes, with the overall winner receiving a cash prize of SGD 10,000 (~PHP 378,357)

AI for SEA Roadshows will be held across Southeast Asia, specifically in Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Manila. Interested individuals can visit the official website to learn more about the themes and datasets. The deadline for submission is on June 17 and shortlisted candidates will be informed on the week of June 24. Finalists will have a demo day to present their solutions that will happen on the week of July 2.
