0:00Hello from the other side, CJ here. And
0:03when it comes to smartphones with really
0:05capable cameras in the mid-range
0:07segment, Technos Cammon series has been
0:09proven to be among the good ones. And
0:12today, we just got our hands on the new
0:15Technocon 50 Ultra 5G. Spoiler alert,
0:18it’s shaping up to be a daily driver
0:20aimed at users who spend a lot of time
0:22on their phones. Whether that be
0:25scrolling through social media, watching
0:27videos, doing mobile photography, or
0:29even jumping into games during breaks.
0:31But in real world use, does this new
0:33ultra phone deliver a balanced
0:35experience? Let’s find out in this
0:37review. Roll that intro.
0:46Starting with design, the Kon 50 Ultra
0:485G does have that familiar look, yet
0:51some unique touches here and there. In
0:53the hand, it feels balanced and
0:55comfortable even during extended gaming
0:57sessions, mainly thanks to its subtle
1:00curved edges. The phone never felt
1:02awkward to hold even after gaming or
1:04watching videos on it for a while. The
1:06phone also gets extra, and I mean extra
1:09layers of protection. For starters, the
1:11Canon 50 Ultra carries IP66, IP68, and
1:15even IP69K ratings. Before, that level
1:18of dust and water resistance was usually
1:20reserved for the flagships. It’s quite
1:22nice to see that phone makers nowadays
1:24are making it more common for mid-range
1:26to have that kind of ingress protection.
1:28So, thumbs up for that. For buttons and
1:30ports, found on the right side are the
1:32power and volume buttons, the IR
1:34blaster, and one of the mics on top,
1:35while the bottom has the main
1:37loudspeaker, USBC, another mic, and the
1:39SIM card tray. It does have dual stereo
1:42audio, but the second speaker is
1:43integrated with the earpiece. And you’ll
1:45notice here on the left side, there’s
1:48this dedicated button for Technos AI
1:50assistant called Ella. This placement
1:52here is far enough from Edge that it
1:54won’t cause any accidental press when
1:57gaming, for example. Overall, the design
1:59looks and feels premium in our [music]
2:00opinion. It does look like a Galaxy
2:02phone with those vertically aligned
2:04camera lenses, but give credit where
2:06credit is due. Techno with its own
2:08touches makes this phone rather unique
2:10than looking like a cheap copy. Not to
2:12mention, included in the box is a case
2:14following the same design as the phone’s
2:16rear panel, but with some kind of
2:18jumbled text markings. That’s something
2:20you don’t usually see from other phones,
2:22so that’s a plus. Flipping the phone
2:24over, the Kon 50 Ultra sports a 6.78 in
2:28AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and
2:30a 144 Herz refresh rate. It feels smooth
2:32and responsive in daily use, as
2:34expected. Scrolling through social media
2:37feels fluid, and the colors pop without
2:38looking oversaturated. Although 144
2:41hertz refresh rate is a bit overboard
2:43for most apps. So checking out device
2:46info, we can see that the phone has
2:48variable refresh rate, meaning it can
2:50automatically adjust to as low as 30,
2:5260, 90, and up to 120 fps and 144 hertz.
2:56Meanwhile, [music] its stereo speakers
2:58provide decent volume and clarity. The
3:00audio is loud enough to fill a small
3:02room. For a mid-range phone, it won’t
3:04replace a Bluetooth speaker for deep,
3:06punchy bass, but it handles highs and
3:08mids well. And the stereo setup also
3:10adds a layer of immersion to that
3:12viewing experience. For biometric
3:14security, the indisplay fingerprint
3:16sensor is quick and [music] accurate.
3:17Face unlock works reliably even under
3:19low lighting. So that’s a nice touch.
3:21That said, I don’t really have
3:22complaints about its screen. The
3:24multimedia experience is decently good.
3:26Now, let’s talk about one of its main
3:28highlights, the camera. The Canon 50
3:30Ultra features a triple rear camera
3:31setup consisting of a 50 megapixel main
3:33shooter, an 8 megapix ultrawide, and
3:36surprisingly a 50 megapixel telephoto
3:38sensor with three times optical zoom.
3:40Both the main telephoto sensors support
3:42OIS. By the way, on the front is another
3:4550 megapixel sensor camera with
3:46autofocus. Zoom levels here range from 6
3:49times and up to three times optical
3:51zoom. You can crank it up to 60 times
3:53digital zoom, but as expected, the image
3:56quality drastically drops at that point.
3:58Not to mention, there’s already a live
3:59photo feature available, so that’s a
4:01neat addition. In well-lit environments,
4:02all the cameras perform well. Photos are
4:04detailed, colors are pleasing, and
4:06dynamic range is decent. With the main
4:08camera, the image quality is usually
4:10superb. However, if there’s ever tricky
4:12lighting, the phone tends to brighten up
4:14the image more than it needs to be. So,
4:16I mostly had to adjust the exposure
4:18lower. But for anything else, especially
4:20daylight shots, the main camera remains
4:23more than capable. Ultra wide shots are
4:25decent at best. than 8 megapixel sensor.
4:28We can only do so much anyway. [music]
4:29Still, the quality is respectable enough
4:31for casual social media uploads. As for
4:34the telephoto shots, they look
4:35surprisingly good. At three time zoom,
4:37the details remain sharp, mainly thanks
4:39to OIS support. It also covers nice
4:41colors, and the dynamic range here is
4:42quite good. Selfies are generally good.
4:45However, even with the beautify options
4:47turned off, there seems to be a filter
4:49that smoons my face. The skin tones look
4:51accurate for the most part, though.
4:52Moving on to video capture, both the
4:55rear and the front can shoot up to 4K at
4:5730 frames per second. And just like with
4:59the image quality, the video quality
5:01also looks great. There’s minimal shake
5:03even at 4K, at least for the rear
5:05camera. And the overall look is above
5:08average in my opinion. There are times
5:09that focus tends to struggle, especially
5:11when zoomed in, but the overall shooting
5:14experience has been hassle-free.
5:19Moving
5:34on, let’s talk about performance.
5:36Equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity
5:377400 and up to 8 GB of RAM, the phone
5:40handles multitasking and gaming well.
5:42Apps launch quickly and switching apps
5:44is generally smooth. The 8 GB memory is
5:46also good enough to keep multiple apps
5:48running in the background without
5:49causing any slowdowns. Checking out our
5:52benchmark results, the phone managed to
5:53pump out over 800,000 points in Antutu.
5:56Then 3D Mark Wildlife, it has an average
5:58frame rate of 23 FPS. Lighter games such
6:01as Pokemon Unite ran smoothly at high
6:03graphics settings with stable frame
6:05rates even during clashes. For graphic
6:07intensive games like Withering Waves,
6:09however, this is where the mid-range
6:10chipset shows its limits. Even at the
6:13ultra performance preset, which is
6:15already a lower graphic settings than
6:16the default one, the [music] game still
6:18struggled slightly with occasional frame
6:20drops during intense moments. For casual
6:23gameplay or less demanding games, it
6:25does perform admirably and lowering
6:27graphics can improve stability. Thermal
6:29management is decent with the back
6:31warming up slightly under extended
6:33gaming sessions. Thankfully, it didn’t
6:34go up to a point where it was alarmingly
6:36hot. Software-wise, the Kon 50 Ultra
6:39ships with Android 16 and Techno’s iOS
6:4116 on top. The very first thing I
6:43noticed is the refreshed UI. It’s almost
6:46as if I’m holding an Apple device
6:48because of how the app icons look. Even
6:50some navigational UI elements look like
6:52it’s inspired from Apple’s iOS 26. It’s
6:55not that we’re complaining, though. It
6:56still looks good in our opinion. That
6:58said, there is bloatware present out of
7:00the box. The phone comes preloaded with
7:02several third-party apps and techno
7:04services that I don’t use. While this
7:06does make the initial setup feel a bit
7:08cluttered, most of these apps can be
7:10uninstalled or disabled anyway. So,
7:12after spending some time removing the
7:13stuff we don’t need, the UI becomes
7:15cleaner and easier to manage. Going back
7:17to the AI button here on the side, like
7:20I said earlier, it’s a dedicated button
7:22for Techno’s AI chatbot called Ella.
7:24Ella offers several tools such as Ella
7:26Voice, which is essentially its version
7:28of Google Gemini. Ella briefing provides
7:30text summaries and Ella Smart Touch
7:32offers contextual assistance. Beyond
7:34Ella, the phone also supports Android
7:36features like circle to search. While Hi
7:38OS isn’t the cleanest Android skin
7:40available, it still offers a lot of
7:41functionality and flexibility. In terms
7:43of connectivity, the phone gets all the
7:45essentials here. Dual SIM with 5G,
7:47Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and USB with
7:50OTG support. There’s also an IR blaster
7:52here, which is helpful for convenient
7:54universal control for home appliances.
7:56Battery wise, it packs a 6,500 mAh unit
8:00paired with 45 watts of charging. The
8:02bump in capacity shows in our video loop
8:04test where the phone passed 18 hours
8:06[music] and 13 minutes of playback.
8:07Gaming does not drain the battery
8:09excessively fast and with typical usage,
8:11the phone can easily last a full day.
8:13The supplied 45 watt charger refills the
8:16battery relatively fast, taking about
8:18over an hour. So, with everything that’s
8:20said and done, what’s going to be our
8:22verdict about the Technocon 50 Ultra?
8:24Well, it’s certainly looking to be a
8:26decent all-rounder that offers a nice
8:28balance between overall performance,
8:30multimedia experience, and capable
8:32cameras. The Dimensity 7400 Ultra
8:34chipset, while not being the fastest,
8:37was still able to provide enough
8:38processing power for important stuff
8:40like gaming, productivity, and everyday
8:42use. The multimedia experience is great,
8:44and its flexible camera setup makes
8:46mobile photography a tad [music] bit
8:48easier to do. Sadly, as of making this
8:50video, we don’t have the official
8:51pricing yet for the Technocon 50 Ultra.
8:54So, that’s kind of hard to say how this
8:56unit will stack up against the
8:57competition. But, if it’s going to be
8:59priced similarly to last year’s K150
9:01Premiere, which retailed for 21,999
9:04pesos, then the Canon 50 Ultra would
9:06become a very compelling option
9:08considering the amount of camera
9:10hardware you’d get at this price point.
9:12Setting aside the price though, the Kon
9:1450 Ultra is a good pickup, especially
9:16for those looking for a phone that does
9:17a ton of photography features without
9:19spending a ton of money. But hey, what
9:21about you? What do you think of the
9:22Technoc [music] 50 Ultra? Will you get
9:24us anytime soon? We’d love to hear it
