Globe’s latest offering is an Apple certified pre-owned iPhone 6 Whitebox under the telco’s myLifestyle Plan 1799, complete with one-year warranty and brand new accessories.

The iPhone 6 Whitebox is an Apple Certified refurbished product, which only means that this is a pre-owned device that underwent Apple’s refurbishment process prior to being offered for sale in a much lower price. Nevertheless, it is still covered by Apple’s One-Year Limited Warranty and comes with a plain “white box” instead of the standard retail box. The package also includes brand new original accessories like wall charger, lightning to USB cable and earpods.

Pre-owned na, ang mahal pa rin. iPhone devices are late-bloomers. New apps and features sa Apple, pinagdaanan na sa android. You can count Apple’s innovations in one hand since they release their very first phone. And mind you, Steve jobs did not invent nor conceptualized touch screen phones and tablets. He merely patented some of his creations and this started the legal wars between Apple vs Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, etc… Try to search the net for info…

And about pre-owned, post-paid phones, unlock na lang nila at ibenta as second hand.

Bakit kasi dito sa atin, hindi bawal ang locked-to-network ang phones? Sa ibang bansa, bawal ang naka-lock sa network. Something for our politicians to consider…

May news kelan lang na hindi pumayag ang Indian government na bentahan sila ng refurbished apple products dahil dagdag e-junk sa bansa nila. Ngayon ay pinopromote naman ito sa bansa natin. No to second hand expensive garbage. Pinagkakitaan na nung brand new, pagkakakitaan pa ulit sa pangalawang pagkakataon e dapat nasa eco recycling plants na ang mga refurbished na yan.

The difference between us and India? The latter has an entire manufacturing sector – it makes sense that second-hand sales are discouraged there. Japan has a similar story – people always buy new pieces of tech to support their industry. So that means they keep throwing away their old stuff. Recycling is not easy – it is expensive, and energy-intensive (motherboards alone are a nightmare to recycle). Those countries know that, dumping it elsewhere is actually cheaper.

We don’t have much of a tech industry to speak of (if at all). If not for the second-hand market here, many of our fellow citizens wouldn’t even have a TV. I would love for our country to prosper, so that many of us don’t rely on other people’s junk. Though maybe we’ll also have the same practices as those countries and dump our own junk somewhere else.

Globe’s ridiculous pricing is a different matter altogether.
