Nintendo Switch 2 officially unveiled

Listen to article

After months and months of waiting, Nintendo finally unveiled its next console, and yes, it will go by the name Nintendo Switch 2.

Watch the first-look trailer below:

Pretty much all the leaks were accurate. The official design closely matches the replicas that were popping up at CES 2025.

While the official trailer hasn’t revealed much about the technical details, we do get some confirmations about what to expect.

First, the new console will be backwards compatible with original Switch games. As expected, there will also be exclusive NS2 games, though Nintendo has only teased a Mario Kart game for now.

Second, the Joy-Cons were shown as mice, hinting that the controllers will be used for that utility. This will surely enhance UI navigation on the console in docked mode, but that remains to be seen.

Lastly, the Joy-Cons will have a magnetic connection—a welcome upgrade from its predecessor slide-to-lock mechanism.

We should learn more about the Nintendo Switch 2 during the scheduled Direct on April 2, 2025.
