Facebook shuts down built-in mobile chat service, moves to Messenger app

You have probably noticed it by now. Facebook has already shut down their chat service and messages on the main Facebook app and has moved to the standalone Messenger app for iOS and Android.

The plan to shut down Facebook chat and migrate to Messenger was already announced back in April but it was just recently that the new rules are being implemented. This means that you are now required to download the Messenger app in order to send messages to your friends as seen in the image above. However, if you’re on the iPad, Windows Phone, mobile web, and desktop, you’re safe, for now.

This shouldn’t affect the ability of FB browser/web apps to handle messaging, should it? There are quite a few of those FB web apps acting as alternative FB client software, most of them at under 1MB only.

meh~ since 8g lang ung iphone 4s ko very crucial sakin ang memory space so kahit pa maliit lang size nyan, pampadagdag kain pa din ng phone memory yang idea na yan LOL!xD

There should also be a button in the messenger app that switches back to fb app. That’s just my two cents. :)

There is. If you click the messenger icon in the page, there’s a back button when you’re already inside the messenger app. Pero if you directly go to the messenger without opening facebook first, di ka pwede magswitch kasi nga open lang messenger. :) hope this helps. :)
