All the 7 Philippine ISPs to Choose From

The call for a more open competition in the internet service space is becoming louder as major players started to shift into volume based charging. While most people might think there are just 2 players in the Philippines, we tried counting and found 7 significant ISPs to choose from.

There are actually way more if we count the regional ISPs but these 7 we’re listing are the more prominent ones.

PLDT/Smart/Sun Cellular. The biggest player in the group is the combined force of PLDT with Smart and Sun Cellular under its hood. The latest subscriber count is close to 4 million broadband users. PLDT DSL Plan starts at Php999 for 1Mbps.

Globe/Innove. The second largest service provider with a subscriber count of at least 2.8 million broadband users. It is a joint venture between the Ayalas and SingTel. Plan starts at Php999 for 2Mbps with 10GB bandwidth.

Eastern Telecoms. Eastern Telecoms provide DSL, evoDSL and IDS services in Metro Manila, Laguna, Baguio, Cavite, Batangas and Cebu. Plan starts at Php1,000 for 2Mbps and Php1,500 for 4Mbps.

Bayantel. Owned and operated by the Lopezes, Bayantel provides DSL, leased lines and nomadic wireless internet. Globe is bidding to acquire Bayantel, a move that PLDT is opposing. They service parts of Metro Manila and Bicol. Plans start ar Php999 with 1Mbps, Php1,099 for 2Mbps, Php1,299 for 3Mbps, Php1,699 for 4Mbps and Php2,099 for 5Mbps.

Wi-Tribe. Wi-Tribe is a Qatar based internet services provider company operating in Qatar, Pakistan, Jordan and Philippines. In the Philippines, they are part of Qtel and San Miguel. They started operating in 2010 by offering WiMax services in Metro Manila and neighboring cities/provinces. Plan starts at Plan 598 for 1Mbps.

Destiny Cable Internet. Aside from providing cable TV services, Destiny also offers residential internet, starting with 1Mbps for only Php799 a month.

Sky Broadband. A subsidiary of Sky Cable, Sky Broadband offers cable internet speeds of up to 200Mbps, the fastest residential offering in the country. Plan starts at Php999 for 3Mbps.

There a lot more smaller players scattered across the country. One that’s been in our radar for some time is ICT Converge which has been offering fiber internet starting at 6Mbps (1Mbps CIR guaranteed) for Php2,600 right up to 100Mbps. However, they still have limited coverage in Metro Manila, Bataan, Pampanga, Tarlac and Bulacan.

While the top 2 are the biggest players in the market, there is a lot of opportunities for the 3rd to the 7th players. That’s not counting the smaller ones that may just need a sizeable investment to grow and scale.

Hey ms ok regular plan799 ng globe (consumable 1299) have a gosurf999-8gb then 300php consumable, my line from globe use it for internet only inside globe lte portable wifi or pede gamitin basta lte device para mag benefit sa globe lte site, usually mga non lte device d mapakinabangan globesites, swerte malakas lte signal samin and also sa mga frequent location na pinupuntahan ko, data ko umaabot 100gb no throttling, bale plan799 plus 501php on top of bill lng for data anti bill shock, bill ko monthly w/o calls 1300php only, di pino promote ng globe yan dahil interest ng company, pag tatoo data sim bibigay ng globe gosurf999 plus 501ontop if bill kya 1500php, you can save 200php for plan799…:-)

Globelines 8mb Dsl line has high Latency
Calls to tech support go to a call center staff by people with a check list with no computer knowledge at all.
Trying to explain latency by using trace routes and pathping to see the hops your data goes thru is not covered on their tech support check list.
The Download and Upload speeds pretty much all they can handle.
While visiting web pages like facebook you might not notice a problem but once you connect to a online game you see the problem high latency instead of 200ms which seems to be the best they can manage you are playing with 1000 to 20,000 ms latency which means when you hit a button you wait for 30 seconds before your character reacts.
My problems are always in Makati where my data bounces from one server to another then another before it leaves for Hong Kong or Singapore or whatever, Somewhere in those multiple hops in Makati i get packet loss which does not show up in speedtest.net so it’s beyond the capability Globelines tech support.

Tech support can’t even understand what you are talking about so good luck getting it fixed or them filling out a trouble ticket when they can’t grasp the concept.

Had serveral so called techs inform me that i was over my data cap limit when in fact i was not and proved it by speedtesting the connection. If it is not on the paper they will just say anything to get off the phone even if it does not make sense or address the issue.

Umm sir all of this given ISPs are shit, is there any else??? Look, 1Mbps is NOT OK. Its basically a snail running an wifi. Please, give more decent WIFI Providers.
*FYI I tried most of this and this are shit, mostly PLDT with its stupid customer service.*

I have Converge in Angeles. Very poor service for gaming. Max speed is 2Mbps which is fine for me when it works.

Issues: No way to contact the company online when having issues. Have to either go physically into the local office and wait in line 2 hours or try to get through on their crappy phone system. Texts for help are commonly ignored. This gets old as the service hours down about once a week so contacting Converge gets painfully bothersome.

The internet service itself is ok when it is working with one major issue it is over subscribed. During peak hours the service drops packets up to about 10% which makes the connection pretty unusable. When contacting Converge support the techs have no idea what packet loss is and can only state “No problems Sir”

Overall a pretty incompetent company.

Eastern Telecoms installed my phone line and dsl in about a month time. They had to prepare the facilities going to our building. Installer was friendly and at first the connection was not stable so this guy really found ways to get me a good connection. Have been connected for 2 weeks now. So far so good. happy with the installation. Subscribed for 6mbps and speedtest results wih either a 6.1 or a 5.8, :) thank you Lord!

Never go for Sky Broadband. Never.

1. I live in Makati.

I totally agree with you on giving the underdogs a fighting chance and I wish Converge ISP answered my queries before I was left no choice but to go for this horrible, scam of a company (Sky). I tried to reach converge via E-Mail and phone calls. Even tried to apply online providing all the necessary infos. Sadly they neglected my application tho. No body got back to me.

ConvergeICT I have unlimited download, I just downloaded Alien Isolation(24GB) only took 2 hours and 10 minutes. ALso Have downloaded over 2tb this month and its only the 24th. Sir, yung PLDT Plan999 (total bill will be P1700) is already 3Mbps. Yung plan na 1Mbps with phone is their Plan990.

Been using PLDT since 2010, naexperience ko na rin ang mabagal na speed, high pings and low bandwidth, yung customer service nila swertihang may makausap ka kasi sobrang tagal bago merong sumagot sayo. Ngayon dumadalas na ang downtime ng net namin (from plan 999) nag upgrade kami ngayon telpad plan na.

If you want uncapped data from globe, go with their mobile data plan. Had mine set at 999 with 5gb cap with anti-bill shock of 1500/month.

4 months in, i’ve never experienced any throthlling. I admint that i use my phone to dowload torrents and glad that im in an area where lte is available. Unlike their old plan, once you reach 1gb for a day, they will put u on 2g, this one, they’ll just charge u 2php/mb until you reach 1500, when they stop charging u.

I usually get my bill and see that i have used about 60gb of data and only pay 1500/month. Cheap, considering i get almost 23mbps at night and up to 7mbps during peak hours.

I still choose Globe Home Bundle Internet. I tried PLDT Home myDSL at 10Mbps speed and paid 4,600 a month but fail to trigger the actual speed and I got only 6.7mbps paying 4,600 and it cost very expensive plus move override payments. I choose Globe Home DSL at 15 Mbps speed and only cost me 4,999 old plan and got 13.8 Mbps speed and static ISP without data capped. Maybe, data capping applies only to regular plan holders but not applicable to premiun plan holders. Rest assured, why should I pay 3,000 pesos for 3-5 Mbps? The same with my GLOBE Mobile Data Plan paying 6,799 and got 6-8Mbps LTE speed and 12Mbps for 3G without data capping and TRUE data unlimited plus call and text unlimited to all network. It comes with 5,000 consumable for Roaming. I never ask for more. I still choose Globe Home DSL. I don’t know about all these companies mentioned. I am only subscriber of both PLDT and Globe. Sad to say I cut my subscription to PLDT.

Before bayantel dsl kame. Naalala ko noon kbps plang speed namin noon. Pero stable naman connection noon. Then after magkaroon ng interruption lagi sa connection pag may tumatawag sa landline madalas drop rin internet. Lumipat kame sa globe. Maganda offer ng globe dsl before. Then 1mbps na kame agad. Kaso ang hindi namin gusto sa globe before madalas napuputol ang connection. Then pag tatawag ka sa customer hotline. Mga 3days to 5 days before pa pumunta. Tiniis nalang namin. Then nag upgrade sila sa 2mbps,3mbps na 1299pesos libre na calls sa globe landline to mobile, globe or tm mobile, update lang pinapagawa namin sa account hindi namin gusto mga hidden charges dahil sa wifi router. Then may tumwag samin lotalty sa globe. 5Mbps upgrade at 3months namin hindi babayaran at pwede padowngrade pag hindi nagustuhan. Pag okay ka naman 1599pesos monthly. Landline bundle na yung dsl at free call sa globe mobile. So far okay naman yung speed.. kaso up to now, panget pa din customer service nila. Pag may tech ka aabangan pag wala la internet connection, mga 3 to 5days bago pumunta, kaya matagal kami walang net. Pinapa adjust nalang nmin yung bayad namin pag matagal kame walang net. Problema kasi sa internet namin before, walang internet pag umuulan. Pero ngayon okay na.. pagpunta nalang ng tech matagal.

Hi to All:

I prefer Globe over the other providers out there. I am waiting for a representative and it doesnt take forever unlike the others I need to stay on the phone for 45 minutes to 1 hour just to have someone on the phone and they hang up on you, rude and no callbacks if you get disconnected. Imagine that.

Friendly reps are on Globe and they are calling you back. :)

I SURELY DO NOT AGREE!!! GLOBE IS THE BIGGEST LIAR OF ALL THE ISPs… per my own firsthand experience, all their staffs & crew were fully trained to deceive & to lie to all their clients… they never comply to service commitments & never call back as they promised… their bandwidth for lying is much wider than their broadband signal!!! BELIEVE ME!!!

Go to their website and then there you complaint.

You know what there will be a 1% probability that Globe can read this.

PLDT user here. So far kontento ako sa speed, single user most of the time, minsan gadgets lang.. Plan 990 a month (internet+landline) 2mbps a month :D (for old subscriber ata itong 2mbps) pag new ka 1mbps lang :D

Anyway, wala talaga prob. :) once in a blue moon lang sila mag maintenance.

Before, there is Bundled 990 and Bundled 1299 Plans. Now, there is only Bundled 1299 Plan at 2Mbps. Those loyal PLDT DSL customers previously on Bundled 990 are currently still paying Php990/month albeit the DSL speed is now at 2Mbps. PLDT had made automatic upgrade from 384kbps to 512kbps to 1Mbps and now to 2Mbps. DSL speed is consistent. Thanks PLDT.

Same here. Subscribed to PLDT DSL Plan 990 (DSL+Landline) bundle since 2006 pa ata. I was surprised na naging 2Mbps na ang speed ko when I was supposed to be only getting less than that, so thank you PLDT lol. Tawag ng tawag ang agents nila sa bahay asking me to upgrade because supposedly I was an eligible sub for paying on time palagi (lol) but I always decline. I’d rather stay on my old contract.

Just to correct lang, there is still Bundled Plan 990 (pldthome[dot]com/dsl) together with 1299.

WifiCity must be the best ISP I tried so far. They mainly cater to business users in central business districts. They claim to have end-to-end fiber connection from your site to theirs and support is really superb. They can optimize routes upon request (and within minutes while you are in a support call with them!) They are quite expensive though.

Marami nagrereklamo sa ICT Converge. Kumuha ako ng digital cable service nila pero hindi ko kinuha yung internet dahil notorious ang service nila dito sa Pampanga.

Converge ICT user here. Used to complain a lot about their service too (and cant shift to other ISPs because there is no other ISP in our place other that Converge) but after replacing our modems our connection actually became faster. Maybe that’s a factor?

The proxy employed I think is utilized to save upstream bandwidth(uploading data to the network) and improve customer response times by caching. Caching is used to access commonly “accessed” data. When a user is trying to access a web page that has already been stored on the “cache server”, they will be sent the stored version instead of downloading the web page again. This helps reduce network and Internet traffic congestion as well as saves the company on bandwidth costs.

LTE globe gamit ko sa shop ko. Last year lng ako nagpakabit. Ask ko lng i aaply dn ba nila sa old subscribers ung new polocy nila sa internet? Psagot po.. Ok kasi sa torrent ang globe. Yung smart LTE ko ang bagal ng torrent max 50kbps. Pero d nmn ganun dati.. Full speed nun umaabot ng 4mbps tlga.. Now wala n direct download lng mabilis. Wala akong msabi..

For 3 years bayantel gamit ko 1mbps/999php. 6 mos ago I upgraded it to 3.6mbps\3kPhp, as of now I have no issues and stable naman sa torrent and downloads.

Same here, medyo nagkagulo lang last year when Bayantel and Globe underwent “merging” of their infrastructures (according to the technicians who worked in our area). From my experience as an 8-year subscriber, stable sila in SOME areas of QC.

Been with Bayantel since they first introduced their broadband service, at 128kbps. Aside dun sa occassional na drops sa connection, wala naman kaming naging problema sa billing, tech support. Pag may problema, madalas within 24 hours andyan na yung technician nila. Tapos pag nalimutan namin magbayad, putol lang ang outgoing calls namin, pero may incoming at internet connection pa rin kami.

At higit sa lahat, iniiwasan ko kasi kumuha ng kahit anong service sa mga kumpanya ni MVP, Smart/Sun/PLDT/Cignal etc. para kahit papaano may competition.

ICT Converge user here for 8 years and counting! Though I had bad experience with their techsupport over the phone. Their internet doesn’t have cap.

USELESS ARTICLE. Alam na naman ng nakakarami ang pangalan ng mga ISPs na yan. Akala ko pa naman may speed/offerings/price comparison na gagawin. Eh ililista lang pala. Total waste of time to open and read through which is why i just had to take the time to post this to vent my frustration.

Useless?

Well I found this helpful, I never knew theres witribe and eastern. Plus whenever I talk to people about internet, they only know about Globe, Smart/PLDT lang.Unless when you refer to lahat, maybe the people you know are very much familiar with ISPs in metro manila.

This article also listed the basic offers with price and Mbps. Speed test? this varies according to location im pretty sure.

chill, google ka na lang if you find this article lacking.

Anyway in our case, at home (DSL) we switched to Globe (previously was on PLDT) last year, and it was better. But for postpaid internet, I was with Globe 2 years ago and had issues with customer service and coverage (at least with locations I frequent), everything was better when I switched to smart.

But I really do wish Internet here will be better. We still have one of the slowest internet connection in world.

isa lang masasabi ko.. wala ng magandang ISP sa pilipinas… dina makapasok ibang isp, kasi silasila nagmamanipula ng internet sa buonfg pilipinas…

Before my ISP was Bayantel. 1MBPS / 999. Well, sinubukan kong mag upgrade to 3mbps bundled with phone. Pero tinarantado nila ako. Nagbigay lang sila ng phone pero yung speed ko hindi nagbago. matindi pa niyan. may 400 pa na additional per month ko tapos. meron pang mga hidden chargers like activation fee. Simula nun hindi na ako nagbayad skanila. Lumipat na ako sa SKY. Ok sa una yung sky, pero hindi siya ok sa torrent. kaya direct download na lang gingawa ko pagdating sa movies. So far mabilis talaga.. lalo na sa youtube.. pero may mga time lang talaga na walang connection.. hindi ko to recommend sa mga nag oonline game kasi may mga certain websites sila na mabagal.. facebook mabagal at mataas ang ping.. pero pag google naman ok lang ..

Sky and destiny have merged already di ba?
Sana dinagdag nyo na rin yung info about the type of access, basic subscription packages, fup conditions, coverage area (complete), etc para lalong informative.

Exactly. Sana naman dinagdagan na ng info kesa sa simpleng pag lista lang ng mga ISP. Wala lang yata ibang ma post kaya ganyan.

wew. the best na talaga sana ang globe. when i have a friend who needs internet connection, i immediately recommend globe kasi sa budget friendly plans, good customer service at stable & reliable internet connection. pero sa bagong plans at FUPs nila, malabo na na irerecommend ko sila. pati ako theres no chance na maguupgrade ako sa plans nila. PLDT at skybroadband panalo dito kasi sa kanila bagsak ang mga future customers. crazy talaga yung new plans nila, seriously.

Bayantel and Globe are the same and will have the same policies,

Witribe has stupid data caps,so they are useless

Sky has terrible service, throttling of torrents, and other services , also useless. Same as destiny.

Smart now has lte data caps, restrictions

Pldt dsl leaves the only real choice for now, but once you have no where else to go they will do the same

I dont know about Eastern, i know in makati a few businesses used them and it was slow/no good

PLDT ultera is capped.

PLDT fibr and dsl both have at least one plan each na capped. So if you avoid those 2 plans, then pldt fibr or pldt dsl is uncapped. So pwede pa din ang fibr not only dsl

Hi there! I am a happy and satisfied Eastern Telecom subscriber. I used to be a Destiny cable internet sub that used to have a 7-10Mbps connection for only P888 then became P999 until their service and speed deteriorated into abysmal proportions.

Then I went with Bayantel, Plan 2699 with 2.5Mbps speed. Expensive at the time but had no other choice. Then after 3 years or so of stable speed and connection, they suddenly reconfigured our modems without consent and my consistent 2.5Mbps became 2.1Mbps maximum with no chance of going up to 2.5Mbps anymore. Then they changed our plan to 2,499 with 3Mbps speed but it only went up to 2.7Mbps.

So I left them and went to Eastern Telecom instead and didn’t look anywhere else since. They offer true and consistent 4Mbps speed without any data caps, throttling, and any other bullcrap other ISPs are implementing. In addition, having an average speed of 4.5Mbps for only P1, 500 per month is a steal especially before when 3Mbps wasn’t offered yet for only P999.

Eastern is the best telecommunication provider in Makati CBD. They are the first telco to provide FIBER. Even the residentials in manila no capping affordable and lot’s of clients are satisfied.

If you really want unlimited and uncapped data service, go for PLDT Home DSL (not Ultera, Bro or Fibr).

*slaps* they are the REASON why we have slow and expensive internet! >:C and once Globe is gone, all other ISP’s will follow and PLDT WILL start capping and throttling bandwidth because they are a private sector and they pretty much own the backbone of the Philippine Internet.

PLDT is throttling torrents. I have to VPN myself in order to get the torrent working during the day.

Although they do remove it after 11PM. But sometimes they keep it through out the day.

They are also doing it on business lines. We have a business account not on any enterprise firewall and we still get throttled for torrents. I gets bypassed when I do VPN myself.
